Default Port Washington vs. Plainview

We're planning on moving to one of these two towns. I've read that both have very good schools and that's a very important factor. However, you seem to get more for your money in Plainview, but Port Washington seems to be more popular. What are the pros and cons of both areas? Any info would be appreciated and please feel free to post your honest opinion!

PW is more diverse religion wise than Plainview. PW also has a not so nice section called Manorhaven and also has low income housing on PW Blvd towards Sands Point (if any of this concerns you).

I prefer PW b/c I like the shopping area on Main St, and the charm of being near the water. Plainview is a bit more boring in that regard. Plus the train is easily accessible in PW, which makes for better resale. And the houses in PW have so much more character. I would pick PW hands down over Plainview.

Trying to think what else comes to mind..

We recently chose Plainview due to value for dollar...depending on where you are in Plainview, you are not too far from the LIRR and there is good shopping around, but not that Main St. feel...there's also parks, etc., which we like, but we are a bit biased since we didn't really look in PW due to the expense...I have friends there, though, and they love it there..good luck!
