I grew up in Dix Hills but have lived in Los Angeles for the past 15 years. I am looking to return to LI, however, I have two young boys ages 8 and 11, both with special needs. Both are very bright, but my younger one has ADHD and my older one has Asperger's and ADHD. Can anyone recommend school districts with good reputations for working with special needs kids? Any information about the Special Ed situation on Long Island would be welcome. Thanks!

You might want to contact The Long Island Advocacy Center, a special needs advocacy group for children/adults and their families with special needs ...... There is a contact number in Nassau and Suffolk and easily found online. Perhaps some questions to them can steer you in the right direction as to what districts to research that would be the right fit for your children. You will be your children's greatest advocate, and I wish you luck in this transition.

I have a child with special needs and the 2 districts over the years that were the best by far for us are Rocky Point, and Shoreham-Wading River. Longwood was good, Miller Place was the worst.

Do you not want to move back to Dix Hills? I have heard from many people that they have really good special ed services...

Looking to move to Suffolk County. I have a 8 year old son with Autism. Which school district is the best for special needs in Suffolk County?

Your budget would help. No sense in recommending a district if it won't work for your family if the budget doesn't work...
