We're moving to LI this weekend and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations. My 4 year old has a severe peanut allergy and has mild asthma so we get him checked annually to make sure he's doing ok. Our pumlonologist said that we can just go to a pediatrician to follow his asthma, but I'd like a specialist for the peanut allergy. We'll be in Nassau. Thanks!
And? Ive traveled to Boston & Philia for doctors for my son. I wouldnt go across the island for a pediatrician, but I specialist yes I would, if s/he was highly recommended.

The OP said Nassau, implying that they wanted Nassau. If it was on the edge of the Nassau/Suffolk border that's one thing, but Smithtown is hardly close to the border

I do apologize, my post added nothing to the discussion. I rethought it after I posted it, but my sentiment is the same, Smithtown is hardly the end of the world for a good Dr. that I'd hope to only occasionally need.
For my son, I was relieved it was Boston and not California.
Dr. Raymond Dattwyler, in the village of Huntington. He also has a subspecialty in Lyme Disease and West Nile virus. I've been to a lot of allergists in my life and he is by far the best. Did his residency at Tufts, and has fellowships both at the Mayo Clinic and Harvard Medical/MIT.
I don't know of any allergists who specialize in food allergies per se; speaking as a person who has multiple allergies and sensitivies (food, environmental, and medical/chemical), IMHO it is better to see an allergist who has experience in a wide range of the allergic spectrum.
It's not unusual for child with food allergy to develop sensitivities to other allergens as they grow older (again, speaking from experience of my own and also my father and my children). A good allergist will be able to deal with anything that comes along, or worsens, in the future. Things tend to change dramatically,allergy-wise, once a child hits puberty too. Some will lessen but others may appear or worsen.
Dr. Daniel Mayer. Smithtown NY. google him. He is great, you will not be disappointed.
Even though they want Nassau, I would second this opinion. I was a patient of Dr. Mayer for a long time and he's wonderful. Definitely worth the drive (depending on where they are) to go to him. I live in Suffolk, and I'd have no problem driving into Nassau or the city for a specialist.
