The arrogance comes from Mr. Miller, who as is protocol, properly contacted the coaches of 26 teams in advance of the due date. He somehow bungled his call for Ward Melville, usimg the phone number (from his files) of a coach for team 2 who retired 5 years earlier. Had his call reached the current coach of record for team 1 (since 2006), as it had for 26 other teams, there would be no disqualification . If Mr. Miller would admit his failure to contact WM was the cause for their disqualification, as opposed to digging in his heels, no one would suggest he was arrogant.
Nonsense. I don't know this Miller guy nor care but he's running an event probably for little or some small stipend and it's HIS job to contact every coach in 26 districts and wipe their behinds?! The coach of the WM team has to cut a PO to get a check from WM's accounting dept. Period, end of story. The requisition probably sat in curriculum waiting for approval, then goes to Purchasing to sign off and encumber, then to the claims auditor to approve payment. Add any slacking (or some inclement weather) in that 2 week cycle (that could be a 2 day cycle if anyone bothered to stress the urgency of an upcoming event) and you miss registration. It's completely the district's mistake. I gave them a small benefit of the doubt because the check was still there in plenty of time for the event and a concession should have been made for the kids. Still, you don't register on time, how is it the "event's" fault?!

LOL, this is true and falls under "no good deed goes unpunished" - guess how many phone calls Mr. Miller will be making next year? If he's smart, none at all. This is like the bank calling all their customers to remind them to pay their mortgage every month.
The only folks I feel bad for in this are the students who worked hard putting the time and effort in to qualify for the event. Only to have the school send the registration fee in late. They're ultimately the losers in this whole thing and it's through no fauly of their own.
If the entry fee needed to be in by a certain date and it wasn't then it's pretty clear really. Regardless of who gets a phone call.
Lest anyone think I'm being to harsh, I've been volunteering for the FIRST Robotics Competition for 15 years. We work with high school students over a 6 week "build" period during January and February. Snow closed the schools and impacted our schedules as well. The organizing body did what they've done in years past, told every team nationwide that the deadline remained unchanged. In real life things come up to cause delays and you need to learn to adapt and overcome those obstacles.
I agree, it IS a shame that Mr' Miller called the wrong phone number. But the responsibility ultimately lies with the school.

That article also states that the coach that he called is the CURRENT coach for another team so it's not out of the realm of possibility that she would be available to take the call.
You are right though - that guy is having a bummer of a year.
While I enjoy conspiracy theories, I believe this is a coincidence. According to sources inside the school, the djstrict was only made aware of the groping charges 4 days ago.

Plus, it's also an accusation, not a conviction. While it's entirely possible that he's guilty, it's equally likely he's innocent.
So now Ward Melville gets the bright, hot spotlight of infamy a second time in a month; how awesome for the students.
