Oh well I noticed yesterday that my neighbours house was boarded up. Guess it was foreclosed.

ow do I go about finding out if it is for sale and for how much. I would be interested in buying it as I know that house pretty well ; used to hang out there a lot when the previous owners were living there.

Thanks
dorothy

First, track down the lender. You can do this by going to the county clerk's office in Riverhead (in Suffolk) or in Mineola (Nassau) and looking at the recorded mortgage. Then, call up the bank and ask for the Real Estate Owned department. If they say that they do not have one, ask for whoever is the top person in charge of residential lending.

If you would like to send me a pm with the address, I may be able to look it up for you as we subscribe to various foreclosure services and have limited on line access to public records.

If you feel comfortable sharing, what community out of curiosity? I am wondering how far and wide the foreclosure thing might reach before all of these mortgage resets are done.

A foreclosure one year in is highly unusual. It generally takes about a year once the foreclosure is instituted. If it was foreclosed upon that quickly, it means that the people probably never made a single mortgage payment. If that is true, it's probably a case of mortgage fraud of some sort.
