I think the usage of the word "high speed" in the term "high speed rail" is what attracts people to the concept, but many of you are forgetting that the term is reserved for rail services which operate in speeds excess of 100mph. A rail service like that cannot be efficient if it’s making stops every 10 miles.

Cross Sound Bridge or tunnel

Re-connect the LIRR West Hempstead branch back to the main line through Hempstead

Add north/south rail connections at multiple points on the island.

Start burying power lines in inland areas and work outward.
