A few more....
We knew early on that some kids were just better in some thing than we were. Not everyone made the team. If you couldn't hit or catch, you were benched. If you didn't consistantly catch the football, you sat on the sidelines. Our moms didn't have to attend every game and our dads surely wouldn't take off of work to do so.
We didn't go to preschool. When you were 5, you started kindergarten and and it wasn't followed up by a kindergarten graduation.
A date was between us and a love interest. Not something we did to play with other kids when we were 3.
When girls went out on dates, the boys would pick them up. Not meet them along with a gaggle of friends at the theater or restaurant. Guys were responsible for the transportation and the cost. Ahhh
Most of us couldn't wait to "grow up". To go away to college or graduate high school get a job and rent an apartment. The idea of living at home in one's mid 20's was gross.
Regardless of how much money your parents had, most people in my time had jobs once we turned 16.
We could go an entire day from the time we left home for school until when we got home without making a telephone call. Imagine that? lol

Dear Scammed,
Yes!
I remember Chuck McCann!
I watched his kidult tv comedy shows every weekday afternoon
on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC from Wednesday September 7,1960
to The summer of 1965(This was before Chuck & Paul Ashley
were forced to Leave Ch.11 and move to WNEW TV Ch.5 in
NYC after creative disputes with station management).
Chuck And Paul hosted"L&H&C" and"The Chuck McCann
Show"weekday afternoons at WPIX and they hosted"Let's
Have Fun!"sunday mornings on WPIX..during those days.
When NYC kids tv was occupied by a rare and sadly now
extinct creature.."The Human Being!".
Thanks For Remembering Chuck McCann,
Kevin S.Butler.

Thanks For Remembering Mr.Herb Sheldon,
I remember Herb Sheldon because his son Randy was in one of my classes the year his Dad died of a heart attack, I think. He was quite young at the time. It must have been at least 45 years ago, though. I never knew what happened to that lovely family. I hope they were all right.

I grew up in Middle Village Queens,
knew everyone on both sides of the block
Neighbors were like an extension of your family
Coffee and cake on your "stoop" or "porch"
Wiffle ball, stickball, "suicide", football and "Manhunt"
Drank cloudy water from the hose, delicious.
Played in the open Fire Hydrant, dad was a sanitation worker and we had the safety cap that turned into a sprinkler instead of tsunami
The man who sharpened your scissors in the green truck
Fireworks for all the kids. The Dads had the best stuff.
More American flags
Never even thought about disrespecting or disobeying the following;
Policeman, Fireman, Sanitation man, Mail man, UPS man,Teachers, Principals,
neighbors or anyone in a uniform or OLDER than you.
Going to public school and learning, silence in the classroom, pledging allegiance to the flag and knowing if you got a "red" report card you would get a "red ass" to match.
Having love and respect with my community.
Walking to the store and having to say hello to all your friends and neighbors.
Shoveling snow for $$$$$. Bought a Nintendo with my money. The elderly you did free. If people stiffed you Dad made you put the snow back, HaHa
Halloween, yes eggs and shaving cream.
Playing down the train tracks, stupid and I would KILL my kid but really alot of fun.
Playing with real looking toy guns because the idea of robbing someone or pointing it a police officer NEVER crossed your mind.
WWF on Friday nights and Saturday mornings.
Saturday morning cartoons.
Being completely at ease in my own community.
I hope you all grew up like I did! 1976 was a fine year for wine and people.

Dear Nancy The Reader,
From 1958 to the summer of 1964..
Poor Mr.Herb Sheldon was suffering from heart problems.
But?
It didn't stop him from appearing on tv and from working on
other projects..EG's Owning two summer stock theaters in
Long Island,N.Y."The Tinkerpond Playhouse"in Syoset and
The Montauk Point Playhouse.
(Mr.Sheldon also produced, staged and oftimes performed
in plays in those theaters)
He was also the co-owner of a restaurant in Hempstead,
L.I.,N.Y.(most sources have repotedly said that it was a steakhouse)
and he was involved in many charities..including "The Celebrity Parades
For United Cerbrial Palsy Telethons"with Mrs.Jane Pickens Langley,Mr.Dennis James,
and Mr.& Mrs.Steve & Edie Gorme' Lawrence on WOR TV Ch.9 in NYC.
Mr.Sheldon was appearing in a summer stock production of the
play"A 1,000 Clowns"at his theater"The Tinkerpound Playhouse"
during the summer of 1964.
When he began to suffer serve heart pains..he collapsed
onstage and he was rushed to Manhasset,L.I.,N.Y. Hospital on
July 20,1964..he died the next day on July 21,1964.
He was 51 years old.
What a sad loss to the many NYC kids who grew up with this
man..myself included on NYC kids tv.
Anyway,
Thanks For Remebering:Mr.Herb Sheldon(In A postive sense)

Since this comming Monday September 8,2008..marks the 50th
anniversary of the debut of"The Three Stooges Funhouse!"with
"Officer Joe"Bolton on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC?
I'd like to ask the users of this website..if they have any memories
of watching all of the NYC based kids tv shows that aired "The Three
Stooges"Films?
Not just"The Three Stooges Funhouse!"..but the other programs
EG's"The Three Stooges Firehouse!"with "Fireman Todd"Russell
(Formerly "Big Todd"Russell on NBC & ABC TV's"Rootie Kazootie
Club!"),"The Popeye/Three Stooges Show"With "Captain Jack"McCarthy
and "The Eddie Lawrence Show"?
If any of the users have any memories of watching these shows or?
Seeing the boys in person at an amusement park,a movie theater etc
with the local NYC kids tv host mc'ing the event?
Or..if they have sent any fan letters to the trio or the mc of the NYC
"Three Stooges"Shows or the local kids tv shows in their parts of
the USA that screened the boys film comedies?
Please share those recollections with all of us?

Dear Nancy The Reader,
I only remember the early 1960's edition of"The Merry Mailman's
Funhouse!"weekday afternoons on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC.
(This version of the series was seen at Peanut Butter & Jelly
time on Ch.11 and I could only see it when I wasn't in school)
Mr.Heatherton did the show without a studio audience or
a comedy asistant as he had mc'd such a version of his show
on WOR TV Ch.9 in NYC back in the early to late 1950's.
Nevertheless?
I enjoyed the show and the way that this man was able to
entertain and inform his viewers inbetween the reruns of cartoons.
I Miss this type of NYC based kids tv programming and I miss
Ray..sadly.
We lost him 11 years ago to Altzheimer's disease.
Anyway,
Thanks For Remembering"The Merry Mailman"and the
performer who played him(Mr.Ray Heatherton)..In a postive
sense,
