"Come on to Pinkytown..You'll never wear a frown..feel happy as a clown..you'll laugh until you fall upside down with a Bum.dumm de de yum tum hee hee!" "It's plain to see..that you can tell it's me! From my checkered hat and checkered coat..(Organist plays rungs on the organ)..My funny giggle in my throat!" (Organist plays more rungs on the organ..but alot more brughtly).."My silly dance with a billy goat!" (Organ rungs are now played in a skipity mod) "Put Em' All Together..Put Em' All Together..Put Em' All Together and it's WHOOOOOOOO?!" (Kids all yell! Dear Scammed,
Yes! I remember The original"Beat The Clock"..which was hosted by Mr.Bud Collyer"(God Rest His Soul!). Mr.Collyer mc'd the show weekday mornings on The CBS TV Network during the 1950's. He put two studio audience members thru their paces. As they tried to successfully complete their stunts in the least ammount of time..in order to earn points and win prizes. The show was fast paced, fun and exciting! I also remember seeing"Video Village"..when Mr.Jack Narz was the first host of the program. Set against the backdrop of a small suburban town.. Mr.Narz..his announcer Mr.Kenny Williams(Who appeared as "Kenny The Cop"the show's comedy relief in a "Keystone Kop" costume)and Ms.Eileen Barton(Who was oftimes dressed in a tramp clown suit)would put the contestants thru their paces. As they tried to buy items and move along the life size game..within the confines of the "Video Village"..without losing monies and prizes and going to jail. (The moves along the gameboard were determined by the roll of dice inside of a chuck a luck cage) Unfortuneatly? Mr.Narz was having personal problems in L.A.,Cal. (The show as being broadcast live from NYC at that time)and he finaly had to quit the show and go back home to L.A.,Cal. to save his marriage(Which couldn't be saved and his wife divorved him) Mr.Monty Hall took over as the show's mc and he did the show for the remainder of it's run at it's new tv studios in Hollywood,Cal. Mr.Hall also hosted The Saturday morning kids version of the series"Kideo Village"..or "Video Village Junior". Both "Video Village" and"Kideo Village"/"Video Village,Jr." were seen on The CBS TV Network during the early 1960's. Mr.Mark Goodson and his late ex partner..Mr.Bill Toddman created and produced"Beat The Clock" and Messers:Merrill Heather and Bob Quigley created and produced"Video Village" and"Video Village,Jr." Heather & Quigley also created and produced"Shennanigans!' With Mr.Stubby Kaye and"Kenny The Cop"Williams Saturday mornings for ABC TV During the mid 1960's and later on? They created and produced"The Hollywood Squares", "The Storybook Squares"With Mr./SirPeter"Marshall and Kenny Williams("The Town Crier"),"Runaround!"With Mr.Paul Winchell and"Fantasy!"again with Mr.Peter Marshall. Those were wonderful tv game shows and the hosts made it fun and exciting! You don't get tv game shows like that anymore! Fun City Man P.S."Shennanigans!"was first seen weeknights locally on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC during the early 1950's. Mr.Bob Quigley hosted the local NYC edition of the show. |

How do you remember all these things, fun city man ?
You would be able to write a fascinating book with all this inside information ! I'll bet you remember Winky Dink with, I think, Jack Barry and probably even had one of those screens that you put over the TV and drew on. Zachary (after school only ) ? Thank you for your very interesting posts.

Dear Nancy The Reader,
I don't remember the 1954-1957 CBS TV Network version of"Winky Dink". I only remember the 1969 nationally syndicated edition of the series. The syndicated version of"Winky Dink"was seen weekday mornings on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC and the show had no host. Kids at home bought"The Winky Dink & You Super Magic TV Kit"..via the mail and they were encouraged to attach theit plastic tv screens to their own tv screens and draw pictures during the adventures. As the viewers helped"Winky"and"Woofer The Dog" save"King Kookie The Lion"from another scam caused by the evil wizard"Hareum Scareum" and his not too bright henchcat "Pocus". I do remember John Zacherley(Not Zachery or Zachary) as far back as 1960. When he hosted reruns of mystery movies or horror movies Saturday and Sunday afternoons on WOR TV Ch.9 in NYC. I found entertaining and fun..even though..my parents tried to stop me from watching his show. Mr.Zacherley continued to host his film shows "Zacherley At Large!" and"Zacherley At 12:00"on WOR TV Ch.9 in NYC..until 1962. When his show was cancelled..he moved to WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC in 1963. Where he briefly served as the first host/performer of WPIX TV Ch.11 NYC's"Mighty Hercules TV Cartoon Show". He mc'd the show weekday evenings from monday September 9,1963 to January,1964. Mr.Zacherley also hosted"The Three Stooges Show" weekday evenings on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC from January to February,1964(Before "Officer Joe"Bolton returned as the series' regular host/performer in February,1964). Mr.Zacherley went onto mc"Zacherley's Chiller Theater!" Saturday nights on Ch.11 for the 1964/1965 tv season. His last regular tv series was"Zacherley's Disco Teen!" seen weekday afternoons on WNJU TV Ch.47 in Newark,NJ (that was when WJNU TV Ch.47 in Newark,N.J, was still an English speaking tv station)from 1965 to 1968. After the cancellation of"Zacherley's Disco Teen!".. he left tv to become a rock music radio DJ. Mr.Zacherley has also appeared at numerious nostalgia and horror film/tv conventions nationally over the years. He has also been the subjet of many books about his career and he has appeared on a few tv specials. Most notably"The 35th Anniversary Tribute To WOR TV Ch.9 in NYC" On Tuesday October 11,1984 and "WPIX At 40!" on Thursday September 29,1988. Thanks For Remembering"Winky Dink"and the NYC based tv shows of Mr.John("Roland'")Zacherley("The Cool Ghoul!") Fun City Man |

Several things I have to list: Seltzer bottles-last year my sis, friend and I went to an auction and we all bid on seltzer bottles. My grandmother had a collection of them in frig. on a weekly basis. They would be worth a fortune today. Secondly-Fun City Man mentioned the Cerebral Palsy telethon. That is something we watched each Jan. just like the MD one on Labor Day. My young nephew has CP and just had someone put up a website for a foundation he is starting to find a cure for CP. He is a little celeb. in Houston. His site is thegaryjlynnfoundation. He is the light of my life. I was just talking to him yesterday about that telethon and singing the song Look at us we're walking..." I remember years ago John Ritter would host it with Dennis James as his brother has CP. I do now remember Andy Devine and Officer Joe. Now I am trying to remember where I saw the 3 Stooges in person. |

Dear Scammed,
The UCP Telethons in NYC were originally shown during the fall in the 1950's on WOR TV Ch.9 in NYC. They were shown from Saturday night at 10:00 or !0:30 P.M. to 6;00 or 7:00 P.M. the next day. By the 1960's the telethons were aired during the winter on saturday and sunday..until the 1990's. The were screened on sunday only from 7:00 or 8:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. at night to 1998. Mr.Dennis James mc'd the shows from the first broadcast(Which was on WJZ/WABC TV Ch.7 in NYC) from December 10,1951 to 1954. The telethons moved to WOR TV Ch.9 in NYC in 1955..where they remained to the very last broadcasts in the late 1990's(Sadly Mr.James died in the summer of 1998 and his son Bradley co-hosted the last telethon with Ms.Florence Henderson). Mrs.Jane Pickens Langley Hoving co-hosted the telethons with Mr.Dennis James,Mr.&Mrs.Steve & Edie Gorme' Lawrence,Mr.Morty Gunty,Mr.William B.Williams, and Mr.Paul Anka. Many well known performers and personalities appeared on the shows..including many popular kids tv hosts/performers. All asking the viewers and studio audiences to give their donations and their time to helping people with CP. Thanks For Remembering The Celebrity Parades For United Cerebrial Palsy, Fun City Man |
