Default you're back, funcityman

I was wondering what had happened to you. I always enjoy your posts because you seem to know everything about everyone.

I think of you as a modern Joe Franklin. I wonder why that show is no longer on Channel Nine. Remember .... . . . .brought to you by Martin Paints, It ain't just paints ???

Do you remember Zsa Zsa Gabor? I went to school with her daughter Francesca. Any new news about her? I guess she is pretty old by now . I remember her visiting once a year in her real silver very high heels and almost tripping on the steep steps.

Welcome back, fcm

I thought I would look up Walter Hoving and Jane Pickens. I learned quite a bit. Walter Hoving of Tiffany and Co. was her last husband. What I did not know was that my favorite store in which I did financial damage was Bonwit Tellers, next to Tiffany's. Walter Hoving owned it. He clinched all his deals with a handshake, not contracts as explained by Donald Trump. Every Christmas Walter would go through Tiffany's shaking everyone's hand, in place of a Christmas gift or bonus. When he came into my office and the handshake got to me I said, I appreciate the shake but I really need the financial bonus more. He looked at me,started laughing and evidently did not get the hint as he walked away. A handshake was all we got for Christmas. I will say Mr. Hoving was a man of class that you do not see today. He left Tiffany's when Avon bought out the company.

Fun City Man is on a distinguished road
Dear Nancy The Reader,

I'm sorry that i couldn't reply to your posts or anyone else's

on this website?

I've been having some trouble with my computer and it's

taken me a while to reconnect with this website..let alone

the other websites that I send posts to.

I do recall watching Mr.Franklin's tv shows..first on WABC TV Ch.7

in NYC(When his series was originally titled:"Joe Franklin's Memory

Lane!") and later on WOR/WWOR TV Ch.9 in The NYC/Seacaucus,NJ

viewing area.

I use to think that Joe knew everything..but?

He doesn't.

He claims that the man..who was "Tommy Seven The Clown"

on WABC TV Ch.7 in NYC is Mr.Keith Hefner and that he is dead.

He also claims that Mr.Claude Kirchner played a clown on

ABC TV's "Super Circus" and later on his WOR TV Ch.9 NYC

kids tv cartoon shows.

Joe is wrong on all counts!

"Tommy Seven" was never played by Mr.Hefner..he was played

by Mr.Ed Bakey(Mr.Bakey has been dead since May,1988)and Mr.Kirchner

never played a clown in costume and make on any kids tv shows.

He was a circus ringmaster and a clubhouse leader on the kids tv

shows that he was involved with..he worked with a clown puppet named

"Clownie"on his Ch.9 cartoon shows"Terry Tunes Circus","Merrytoones

Circus" and"Super Adventure Theater!"..but he never appeared on camera

in a clown suit with clown make up.

He also states that "Uncle Joe"Bova played"Johnny Jellybean"or

"Jolly Jellybean"on WJZ/WABC TV Ch.7 NYC's"Time For Fun!"/"The Johnny

Jellybean Show".

Again,Joe is wrong!

""Johnny Jellybean"was played on"TFF"..first by Bill Britten(Who later went onto

become the third host/performer of WABD/WNEW/WNYW TV Ch.5 NYC's long running

kids comedy/variety tv show"Wonderama!"and NYC's first "Bozo The Clown)and later

by Mr.Keith Hefner.

So..I'd be a little weary of Mr.Franklin's info..which is not always

accurate.

Anyway,

Thanks For Your reply

and Your kind thoughts,

Fun City Man.

Dear Ann,

Yes!

I remember"Uncle Fred"Scott..who hosted Ch.5 many tv

cartoon shows for the young NYC viewers.

He had been working on Ch.5 as far back as the late 1940's.

When he was a young staff announcer and Ch.5 was still a part

of the now forgotten Dumount TV Network.

(Ch.5 was a part of The Dumount TV Network from 1948 to 1958

later it became a aprt of The Metropolitain Broadcasting Co./

Metromedia TV Stations from Sunday September 7,1958 to

March,1986 and in March,1986..the stattion formerly known as

WABD/WNEW became WNYW TV C.5)

Along with annoucing many tv series..he was the announcer

and commercial spokesman for"Capt.Video & His Video Rangers!"

and he mc'd such cartoon shows as"Cartoon Playtime!","Cartoon Circus",

"Felix The Cat & Friends!"/"Felix & Diver Dan!"and he was the second and

last host of Ch.5's popular saturday kids tv game show"Just For Fun!".

(Mr.Scott took over as the show's host after Mr.Sonny Fox left following the

saturday July 31,1965 broadcast of the program).

Mr.Scot retired from Ch.5 in the 1980's and is now living in

retirement.

I was lucky enough to meet him in the fall of 1994..

when "The Museum Of TV & Radio"(now known as The Paley

Center For The Media)on W.52nd St in NYC did a seminar honoring

NYC's most popular kids tv hosts.

(Mr.Scott wasn't on the panel of this seminar..Soupy Sales,

Sonny Fox,John Zacherley,Chuck McCann and in his last public

appearance"Capt.Jack"McCarthy were on the panel..Mr.Scott,

Bill Britten,Bob McAllister and Frank Nastasi were watching the

proceedings from the audience)

Mr.Scott was and still a very kindly and gentle man.

He co-hosted"Cartoon Playtime!"with "Uncles Ed"Ladd and

Tom Gregory.

Sadly,

We lost Mr.Ladd in March of 1986..(Just when Ch.5 became a

part of The Fox TV Network)and Mr.Gregory passed away two

years ago.

Anyway,

Thanks For Remembering

"Uncle Fred"Scott,

Fun City Man!

Dear Ann,

Thanks for your reply..

In regards to your mentioning Mr.Claude Kirchner?

His last name has no s in it.

It's spelt..KIRCHNER..The ch in his last name is pronounced

like a S..but..there is no s in Mr.Kirchner's last name.

Again,

Thanks for your reply and

your kind thoughts,

Fun City Man.

Dear Scammed,

Mr.John Ritter and his brother Mr.Tom

Rittter didn't host the telethons..until 1978.

That was when "The UCP Weekend With The Stars!"

Telethons went network..and they would remain on the

network..until the 1990's.

(Originally..the telethons were only seen in The NYC/NJ/

Ct.viewing area and they were known as"The Celebrity

Parades For United Ceribral Palsy!")

The Ritters and their other co-hosts:Mr.& Mr.Henry Winkler,

Ms.Suzanne Sommers,Ms.Joyce De Witt,etc..would mc their

portion of the show from L.A.,Cal. While Mr.James,Mrs.Hoving,

Mr.& Mrs.Lawrence,Mr.Anka,Mr.Gunty and Mr.Williams would

host their portions of the telethons first from NYC and then later

from Seacaus,N.J.(Ch.9 move to N.J. in 1987 and the stattion's

call letters changed to WWOR TV).

The very last"UCP Weekend With The Stars!"Telethon

aired from NYC in 1998.

Anyway,

Thanks For Remembering The UCP Telethons,

Fun City Man!
