I grew up in West Islip from 1965 to 1976, then we moved upstate, not my idea. This past weekend was the first time I really came back and was able to look around West Islip. I also lived in Houston for a few years, too humid for me and the people really do dislike New Yorkers.

I live in Houston. It is not that they dislike NYER's. They just don't know any better.. Seems NYER's are a step ahead or maybe they are not afraid to speak up.
No place like NY.

Exactly 50 years ago this evening?
"The Three Stooges Funhouse!"debuted on WPIX TV Ch.11
in NYC.
From Monday September 8,1958 to Wednesday September 6,1961
"Officer Joe"Bolton would emerge from the gateway to the mythical
"Three Stooges Funhouse!"and entertain and inform the visitors to
the funhouse(The viewers)inbetween the reruns of 78 of the 190
films that Moe,Larry & Curly appeared in for Columbia Pix. during
the 1930's and 40's.
"The Stooges'"films continued to be screen on Ch.11 in NYC
and on other tv stations throughout the USA into the 1970's.
If any of the users of this website have any memories of
watching"The Three Stooges Funhouse!"on Ch.11 in NYC or on
any tv station in the USA?
If they've seen the team and/or their favorite kids tv hosts/
performers on the programs that screened the films or in person?
Or..if they've ever written a fan letter to the boys or to the mc
of their favorite local kids tv shows that screened the films?
Please share those memories with all of us here at this
website?
Fun City Man!

"Then we moved to Setauket in the summer of 1964,here i am looking like the freaken fonz. First day of school,CULTURE SHOCK!"
Yes, we could see the new Brooklyn and Queens transplants coming a mile away. "I'm tuff" was written all over them. Once we befriended them, they would usually tone down their "cool" a little. Not all of them, though. LOL! Every student could find a group of friends with which they were comfortable. Many had been transplants at some point, especially in grade school.
For me, new students brought with them wonderful cultures and dialects, even if they had come from Queens or Brooklyn.
They taught us stickball and potsy (my mother had a fit the first time we drew on the sidewalk). I learned what a menorah was and that everyone didn't decorate a Christmas tree. I didn't know you weren't supposed to cut spaghetti until my friend's Mama taught me how to twirl it.
We in turn taught them how to build treehouses and dig for clams, and which berries were good to eat off the vine, and to lay in a field and just enjoy looking up at the clouds. With every new friend came exciting new adventures.

my two cents, i miss the 1960's simple ways. Anyone just starting out in life, should try its simple wisdom. Cash only, used cars, eat at home,be happy with what you have.

And make sure that every day you hug your kids and tell them you love them.

Hey,its ok to pay off a car and drive it for years, even with repairs its still cheaper to own it. That guy driving the 70,000 suv,is hating himself, and eating a can of soup for dinner. Consider yourself lucky for not following the have it all now crowd. Actually own your own car, retro thinking.

Thank you for all the kindness
"Hi There" as my dad used to say. I stumbled upon this site, and was surprised to find a discussion about my dad. My dad was Herb Sheldon. I was surprised because he passed in 64, along time ago. I was surprised that anyone still remembered. I was surprised that the information about him is that accurate. It really made my day. Thank you all for the lovely kind words about him, I really appreciated it! I have been a New Yorker my whole life, and it seems that we sometimes get a bad rap. This proves again that it is unfounded. In a side note to Nancy thereader, my family is very well. 3 out of 4 are still in N.Y.and I thank you also for your kindness.
