Not too sure about CI but Brentwood is the largest suburban school district in the state... With almost 4k people in a school that is only grades 10-12, some money might be needed. Heck, the schools are slowly moving up if anything. If I remember right they had a 49 on the 2012 list.

They are improving over the years it seems. My only counter to your first point is that Commack is a very large district (2500 high school students) and they are top ranked. I'm not sure how much size has an effect on the rankings.

I can't believe the huge drop for East Rockaway. It's a very nice town with a lot of nice homes but got hit hard with Sandy. That can't be a reason for the big drop off. Does anyone know why the SD ranking plummeted?

I am very curious about this too. I am really guessing it was bc of Sandy. But i'm not sure.. I really don't think it's as bad as the rankings say.

Seems to be expensive chaos and poor administrative decisionmaking in the East Rockaway School District:

Voula Coyle pulled out of East Rockaway classes after probe clears her of testing allegations - Newsday

This is most likely a symptom of the inept leadership as opposed to a full explanation for the district's difficulties.

Wanted to bump this since school is starting back up again, and the teacher evaluations have been released (which seem all over the map imo).

Is there a particular district in Valley Stream that anyone would recommend or a particular school or number of schools? I have a 4.5 year old who is starting kindergarten in Sept 2015 and I am looking to purchase a property but wanted some ideas as to what district in this neighborhood (or I am open to neighboring areas) is the best fit.

I was born and raised in VS. Don't buy there, Lynbrook is MUCH better!
