What is everyone's thoughts on Scott's 4 step program? I'm considering doing my front lawn myself instead of using a service.

It works great. I personally don't do the 4 step anymore though (though there is nothing wrong with it) I just do scotts starter in early spring, regular turf builder in the late spring/early fall and winter guard late fall. I skip the weed and feed and spray for weeds separate as they pop up.

How did you manage to screw up your lawn? All you are doing is mowing and watering. Its not that difficult.

BigMike is right, I killed the lawn by over fertilizer, it looks like a desert in the middle of the summer to the point that it was growing mushrooms.

I had to hide my face every time I see my neighbor. It was bad.

After spending $1,500, the new is the best on the block. Money is sweet.

That's why you only dose the lawn at the levels stated on the package and set them via the spreader (in fact I usually set a bit lower). You also never ever fertilize in the hottest months of the summer as you will torch your lawn. My neighbor (from Brooklyn new to the lawn game) had some weeds so he thought he could clump the weed and feed in the areas that had weeds, the result was dead spots all over his lawn.

Where on Long Island is this? That's a good price for that much land.

And how would that price in Virginia be pertinent to someone asking about lawn service costs on Long Island?

Because the OP was vague...and I said and others said ..location,size,extra's,etc would influence the cost..

Like I said 21 a week might or might not be a good deal... the added info has helped both me and the OP and others Maybe if you stop being so argumentative and see clearly you would understand more!

Well this is the Long Island forum. Why don't you post answers that include Long Island costs instead of costs in some other state?
