Just bought out in Massapequa and have a decent sized front lawn. Grass needs a kickstart..it's dead in some areas, has a few weeds here and there and it's not the greenest. I just mowed and trimmed today (looks better already), but it needs some professional loving to get it looking healthy and I don't have much experience in up keeping of lawns. Was considering using Tru Green to come and apply fertilizer, grub/bug control, put down lime, seed etc. Has anyone had experience using them and what are your thoughts? I can also use a landscaper to do what I need (same as Tru Green I'm assuming)...just not sure what the best route to go is. Thanks for all your input and happy gardening.

had scott lawn services. Bad experience, they don't care about your lawn, they come whenever they pleased.

I'm considering buying the Scott's 4 step program and just doing it myself. Has anyone used it? And what do you think about it? Thanks for the replies fellas.

It's fine but I've had much better results using lawn doctor. Best looking lawn I've ever had.

What did your lawn look like before Lawn Doctor? What does it look like now? I would love some more information on this company.

Don't waste your money with any service. I used true green years ago and they were terrible. They were over priced and didn't notice that my lawn had disease or weeds. Go to a reputable nursery in your area and get a good organic lawn care product. All the Scotts and other stuff just fill your lawn with nitrogen to make it grow fast and green up. It doesn't actually help your lawn after the first week or two.

Even with the application of the 4 step programs I always got crabgrass and areas of clover. Biggest problem was a recurring weed that appeared every summer and strangled out large areas of my lawn before it died every fall. This cost me lots of time and money in reseeding those areas. My lawn is now weed free, dark green green and healthy. If I do happen to notice any weeds I simply call lawn doctor and they return within a couple of days to treat the problem at no extra charge.

I agree with everything you say about true green, having used them in the past. Lawn doctor has been the complete opposite.

Good to hear. Curious, what did Lawn Doctor charge you for their service (I know a lot of factors depend on price) and how often do they come to apply chemicals etc? I just spoke to Lawn Doctor and they're sending a guy out in 1-3 business days for an evaluation and estimate. It's my understanding that they do not do landscaping, (cutting, trimming etc) just weed control, fertilizer, seed, lime etc. I guess I can handle the cutting and trimming myself or get a landscaper to just cut. My main concern is getting my grass healthy.
