Hello everyone. We are looking to purchase a home in Commack and would like some input on what it is like on the 7am trains out of Deer Park and 6pm trains out of Penn Station. Is it a ride where everyone is making contact with each other or more like standing space with enough breathing room to read a book?
I take the LIRR every morning out of Deer Park station. There are 4 trains around that time. 6:55,7:03,7:11,7:16. 7:11 though is the train to Atlantic Terminal. On all these trains you will be able to get a seat always. I take the 7:03 in the morning which is a super express stopping at Wyandanch and Penn Station only. I hope his helps.
You can't go wrong with the "Main Line" I used to commute from Ronkonkoma and now I'm on the Port Jefferson branch and it means pretty much always having to transfer.
Thanks for the input. How about the ride home from Penn Station to Deer Park during rush hour? How is the experience back?
The train ride back from around 6 you have the 5:53 which makes Bethpage first stop. The 6:21 which makes Jamaica then Hicksville as the first stop then the 6:53 which follows the same stops as the 6:21. All of them are crowded but the 6:21 is the worst out of all of them. I take the 6:53 and if you get there with time you can get a comfortable seat. 5:53 is similar as well but I try to avoid the 6:21 at all costs unless I am in a rush to get home. Also if you park in the parking lot prepare for traffic jams leaving the lot. Hopefully this helps you.

What time are you getting out of work?
For Deer Park, you have the 522 and 553 out of Penn. Avoid the 621 at all costs. This train would be late if theres nothing in front of it for 4 hours.
I think you can read a book if you get to go in the middle of the train. But if you get there late and stuck at the door area, you probably would be happy if you get fresh air. Hope you are tall guy.
eesh no wonder they have to pay people much more... 12 hours away from home each day.
We were looking at Commack at one point then realized commuting everyday would be that much worse. Come to think of it, my wife is gone for 11 hours and she leaves the office at 350p. Terrible sacrifices...
