Not let logic into the discussion...

Rarely is logic applied to many of the geographical observations that Joe L. makes..let's not burst that bubble . Getting anything voted on and approved like that is nearly impossible on LI, or elsewhere for that matter.

I don't think West Islip is as White as it once was. It is starting to change here and there.
It is going to happen as folks from Brentwood migrate south of Bayshore Road.

Looking at the school's data, I don't think it has changed much. Are you familiar with the area that made you say it's changing? You live in North Babylon correct?
2000-2001
White - 96.9%
Asian - 1.2%
Hispanic - 1.7%
Black - 0.2%
2005-2006
White - 97%
Asian - 1%
Hispanic - 2%
Black - 0%

Just some observations. I've seen more African-Americans hanging around the homes and stores at the cross section of Udall and Hunter. I know of a couple of Hispanics that live in the area.
Quite frankly I'm shocked that West Islip has remained so white over the years. There are many dumpy sections and there are lots of illegal rentals. Many of the high ranches have apartments where the garage should be.
I think its just a matter of time before West Islip becomes more diverse.

Diversity does not equal disaster. A couple of these answers clearly imply that diversity means poor and black. If you look at the North Shore of Nassau County, there is an ever-growing population of a variety of Asians, all doing well, running businesses, raising great, really smart kids, etc., etc. I can't believe people are trashing this idealistic high school kid and telling him to move out.

You mentioned asians on your post, after reading a lot of posts on this board it seems that asians and indians are sometimes more "accepted" than say african americans or hispanics. Racism will never go away. It's just more discreet than in the past. But on these forums you can speak freely without worry, which is a good thing, but after some reading you begin to understand that racism is here to stay. These are adults posting, parents teach their children and the cycle continues.

That's definitely true; well said. I'm just unwilling to accept some of this diversity=crime/lowlifes kind of thinking that goes on on Long Island.

I think a far more appropriate response is, "Heh, kids. They'll learn." I'm kind of surprised by the response here.

Yes, and if that's the case, these thoughts shouldn't see the light of day, let alone be published in a major media outlet. In the past, children were "seen and not heard" a little bit more than today. It's a mess, with the internet, tv, etc...seen MTV lately? Even Nickelodeon and Sesame Street has issues...
