Hi everyone-
I live in Nesconset and I was wondering if anyone knew some good places to take my dog or for our dog walker to take him thatd safe, less or no animals, and tick free! (If that's even possible)

We go to lake ronkonkoma, but the water has been so polluted and the sand is filled with geese poop!
We've gone to Lilly pond to walk the trails, but have come back with lots of ticks and my dog contracted lymes disease 2 months ago.

We go to the dog park, but i am not comfortable with someone else taking him there without us.

Anywhere else special anyone knows of nearby!?
Thanks

I would say try the walking trail in Setauket-Port Jefferson. There's a parking area on Gnarled Hollow Road in Setauket and the trail goes all the way to 112 in Port Jeff. It's paved, has clear cross walks across the roads, and has some great scenery.

I'd also recommend Avalon Park in Stony Brook. Right near the water mill. There is a boardwalk section then some stone stairs and a paved section up above the lake.

Both are great options and not too far away if doggy doesn't mind taking a ride.

There's another large parking lot for the walking trail in Port Jeff on 112. Just north of the 7-Eleven there's a lot and the trail starts right there.

Dogs are permitted in both Avalon and on the Greenway trail. A number of my friends walk their dogs in either place. There is no tick free place. Avalon has a lot of brushy areas, that's the only downside.

Another alternative, is to walk along the sidewalk from the Stony Brook Yacht Club (large public parking lot just opposite the Three Village Inn) down to the pond, and then head up Harbor Rd to Rhododendron Rd. Make a left on Rhododendron, follow it to end and make a left. Continue until you pass a small pond on the right, and turn left. It brings you back out onto Main St just north of the light at Main and 25A. Turn left and walk back to the SBYC past the Mill Pond. It's about 3 miles and a nice walk which will keep the dog out of grassy areas.

Now that most of the students are home for the summer, SBU has a lot of great bike paths for walking.

Going back to the Greeway Trail. there is also a small lot by Ren Tech at Limroy Dr and 25A -- it's just to your left as you turn onto Limroy. This is the actual start of the trail.

Please be kind and remember to pick up after your dog
