"Some would say". Don't get catty with me. You are the one claiming I'm paranoid and xenophobic. Own your accusations, or don't make them.

It's not xenophobic to desire a reasonable immigration policy as opposed to what we have now. We are a country of citizens, not immigrants. Allowing literally any group of people into this country en mass is problematic, as they cannot assimilate and become 'Americans' if there are too many. Each time we've tried this, it resulted in ethnic ghettos, popular resentment, and oppressive laws in reaction.

I'm happy to receive new folks to the best country on earth, but this is not the way to do it. Actually reform immigration policy to allow more - legal - immigrants in, and don't legitimize illegal methods like border jumping.

Totally agree. So where do we begin? Railing against housing the "horde" of 10 year olds OR making real systemic change? I'm not saying it's easy, but seriously why is the political will soooo lacking? Everything has to be pitted as extremes. Either "slam the borders shut and be isolationist" or "amnesty for all so they can live the dream." I prefer your post which is of course more rational and pragmatic and of course, impossible in current American governance by ANY of the potential yokels in or out of office, past or present.

When they showed up at a former Holiday Inn on Grand Island (huge, 5 floors about, on the river -- has been rebuilt as a upscale resort for a few years), the govt. had no clue it was in use. They didn't have a clue!

Good luck with them. The Supervisor on Grand Island went ultra ballistic on it!

Don't we have 1950s housing projects which have been rejected by the poor for housing in this country the govt. owns? Why not use those as way stations to process and send them home. (Oh, I forgot, up here they got taken down due to asbestos)
