Wish We could help you John. Hope you are able to work things out for yourself. Let us know if there is anything you need to help you through this difficult commute. Hopefully it will not last long. Send me A PM if necessary.
Take it easy pal & try not to let it get you down.
Please only supporters with helpful advice for John & others during this strike which we all hope can be averted.

I fortunately don't have to commute to NYC and can use NICE Bus, I often do use NICE Bus in addition to the LIRR. But I worry about all the additional people on the buses and if I will even be able to fit on. Then there's the traffic. It will make the buses very late and it could take hours just to go a few miles.
I am hoping it at least won't be hot or humid during this strike, it may be quicker to walk. As for those traveling to NYC and/or don't have bus service available, it's going to be rough. People need to open their hearts (and cars) to those stranded.

It's not going to be averted. I'm in the same predicament as John but the news sources have already confirmed the strike is happening.
Denenberg is going around handing out fliers about 511 rideshare. I'm happy to give you the info, John. I have never used the service but it seems like perhaps a better option than the buses.
We'll all get through this like we did with Sandy. LIers are wonderful and resilient people.
How much do you want to bet that the lady who commutes from Huntington and who doesn't own a car and whose school grades and livelihood depend solely on the LIRR voted for Obama? Hey, lady: Here is a life lesson. When you depend on gov't, especially on a corrupt gov't made of corrupt union special interests, to get you where you need to go in order to earn a living to feed your family, you will be scr-weed. Learn to rely on yourself and secure the funding necessary to purchase your own private vehicle. Public transit is for su-clerks.
..enter the myopic Obama hating nuts. Really relevant.
From that same video, the lady who said her fiance lives around Hicksville and 'she travels here all the way from the Upper East Side'. Because it's so far away.
Shut up, lady.
Typical UES.
and she used the word "Majorly"....it makes her sound important.
If anybody needs any personalized advice on which mode of transportation to take as an alternative, send me a DM, and I'll do my best to help you

I shudder to imagine what Manhattan would be like if everybody followed that advice.

She's a student trying to better herself and being able to afford a car in ultra-expensive Long Island is not something everyone's able to do. As a result of her only mode of transport being cancelled, she would be unable to get to class and her grades are very likely to suffer. It's basic cause and effect. However, she would be in the wrong if she had a performance issue and was trying to blame it on an irrelevant factor.
Exactly.
Think about it this way: If she's commuting to school in Manhattan, how often is a car going to come in handy? Driving into Manhattan is madness, strike or not, and if she can get the rest of her daily errands done on foot, or getting lifts from people, or taking the local bus or whatever, then what's the problem? You want her to buy a car for the random chance that a strike might occur.
It sucks that the first week of the strike is when CUNYs have their final exams (or at least my school anyway). I have a few friends who live out on Long Island, who go to school in Upper Manhattan, and I hope they're able to make it.
Technically, she still does have transportation: If she can make it down to the Melville Park & Ride (whether by getting a lift or taking the S1 bus), she can catch the 7Bus to Manhattan, and then make her way to school from there. Either that, or take 2 buses to reach Jamaica (which can be hard enough on a normal day) and then take the subway from there.

Yes it was me! I take the train to Hicksville to catch a bus there instead of the n22, since it's always very late & crowded. Of course I no longer make videos of social issues for safety reasons, heck, I'm pretty skittish about even talking about Westbury on here. I still make videos about the environment, Pine Barrens, and public transportation.
I like your videos, John. your outspoken and kudos to you. but i understand you stopped for safelty reasons. I know a guy who has a "big mouth" and spews it all the time, never thinking anything will happen until recently, some people broke into the place where he was living with intentions on causing him bodily harm. the guy has kept quiet ever since.

Which is why I dont make videos about Westbury anymore or most political subjects anymore, only with this LIRR issue because mass transit is part of the environment & without we would have much more pollution. Trust me I still worry and lock all my doors & windows. I don't feel safe and what sucks is I can't even speak out about it with videos. I even worry about the stuff I say here. It sucks that we live like this. It's sad that when we deal with communities changing for the worse, we have to move instead of speaking out.
As far as this guy you know, he probably should move ASAP.

Something tells me that a strike would be doing her fiance a favor.
