I have been having some recent discussions with my significant other regarding the best place in the New York City area to raise children. I work in Manhattan and in Greenwich CT. I grew up in LivingstonNJ and would like to Move to either Livingston NJ or MillburnNJ I strongly believe both communities have excellent schools, nice restaurants, parks and many cultural opportunities and provide an easier commute to NYC. Plus I think the housing there is more appropriately priced compared to Long Island. My significant other currently lives in MassapequaPark and would like to stay there or move to Syosset or Oyster Bay which I think are very over priced. I used to work out in Seaford and there is not much on Sunrise Hwy or Merrick road except a lot of traffic and fast food restaurants. Your honest opinions as to the pros and cons of both are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Default For those who may not be familiar with Massapequa Park

For those who may not be familiar with Massapequa Park:

Massapequa Park is a village (incorporated in 1931) in the southeast part of the Town of Oyster Bay, in the southeast part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Massapequa Park in the Town of Oyster Bay is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of North Massapequa and the Hamlet of South Farmingdale; on the east by the Hamlet of East Massapequa; on the south by South Oyster Bay and the Hamlet of Massapequa; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Massapequa and the Hamlet of North Massapequa.

The Village of Massapequa Park has a different border than does the "Massapequa Park, NY 11762" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a the "Massapequa Park, NY 11762" mailing address and not be in the Village of Massapequa Park): places that have a "Massapequa Park, NY 11762" mailing address but are not in the Village of Massapequa Park are in the Hamlet of Massapequa, the Hamlet of North Massapequa and the Hamlet of East Massapequa.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

Excellent Long Island Geographic Resource

...It will be difficult to pry your significant other off of the island. I lost that battle as well . Visit the areas, eat in the restaurants and pop in on the schools or speak to the families with children in the schools. Massapequa is more than just Sunrise and Merrick, and I am sure Jersey is more than an annoying place where you can never make a left hand turn.... Best of luck and happy holidays.

millburn is beautiful.... a friend of mine just moved there. the schools are excellent and people are very friendly. however, i can't imagine living anywhere outside of new york. i was born and raised here so having to give up my new yorker status would be a major step for me.
