Contractor mixes will contain higher % of lower quality grasses. Look at the labels on the packages, if you're not picky and don't mind how it feels underfoot then it really won't matter. I used it once and didn't care for the color or texture. I now use seed from sod farms carried by a local nursery.

I mix the seed with peet moss and some starter fertilizer and now have my own, better version of Scott's Easy Seed mixture.

I was using Scotts Kentucky bluegrass seed for my home lawn, and it gives me an excellent result. It comes with unique Watersmart Plus coating technology that will allow the new grass from the seeds. It gives thicker and dark green grass to my lawn. You should try this, I definitely sure, you get the best result.

I've always used the cheapo stuff and had great results.
The one time I used Scotts I had crap results.
Did my entire yard over after Sandy with the $20 sack-o-seed from a big box store with no fertilizer or fancy chemicals and I had carpet -like green lawn.
So there.

I did have an irrigation system which really helps.
Remembering to water is the biggest hurdle.
Dragging the hose around my new crib really sucks.
Definitely gonna install a system when I have the time (and ambition).

used their triple action and it actually grew more clover and dandelions!

don't know what happened to scotts, also don't know a good substitute.
