believe it or not....they still haven't figured that part out yet..... even worse... it's exactly what happened to Florida, and now the same people origianlly from NY that did it to Florida are coming to NC and seriously not expecting it to happen again. Sheep on a field.

New York is for the rich people now... it's not middle or middle/upper class anymore... Either your poor and collect welfare with section 8 housing or your loaded and don't care if you pay 20k in taxes for a 1300sqft cape.

Agree with you that LI has become very expensive, particularly the exponential rise in property taxes. Tampa, however, like all of Florida and particularly Pasco County has been hit with at least a 400% increase in home owner's insurance. 3 or 4K per year in a home nowhere near the beach is quite common now. So, please make sure to get an accurate quote before signing for that house/condo or you might find Florida to be just as expensive as LI.

"And to boot it was a home depot worker that questioned the credit card delivery address. It wasnt even the auditors, state or employee that figured out the scam!"
Yeah, appalling, huh? Talk about being asleep at the switch.
My girlfriend has a son who went to school out here, and the teachers were always begging for crayons, construction paper, etc. Where's all that money going?
I think they ought to run some sting operations, like they did with Federal congressmen in ABSCAM. Then, when they nail these characters, they ought to do some serious jail time. Stealing from working people and their kids is about the lowest of the low.

Every School District Does It.
Found my old HS yearbook last week and while flipping through it I came across a section showing the pictures of the people who ran the school district and low and behold guess whose picture I spot right away. Yep the same guy who stole all that money while running the Roslyn School District. Turns out that before Roslyn hired him to run their district he was on the board for mine. Now my kids are in a totally different district than Roslyn and the one I went to and the Suffolk DA has already indicted 2 members of their district for stealing and the Superintendent resigned recently after the State Comptroller discovered all the improper expenses he's been reimbursed for. If the State audited every district on Long Island the jails would be bursting at the seams.

Yes I know, I'm questioning that now as we speak... don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Tampa is the only place on earth where I can live. I think anywhere out of the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) would be a huge improvement in the quality of life. Only reason I say FL is I love the summer heat...

I know no matter where you go there's going to be scams and corruption. It's just the nature of the beast to want more and more, however my whole point is not to scare anyone from moving here but to warn them to do their homework because like everyone say's about every place they live, it's not what it's cracked up to be. I'm just in search of some fresh air and tired of trying to keep my head a float. The living from paycheck to paycheck thing is not for me. I like to go out in peace and not worry about where the money is coming from. Selling my house in NY would give me more than enough money to move and a much much much lower mortgage, reguardless of the insurance premiums. Everyone say's if you can't make it in NY you can't make it anywhere, well yea that's true when you have to make it to pay your 3,000 mortgage or lose your house. I never understood that. Think about it, it's eaiser to make it somewhere else than here so that makes no sense at all...
just venting...

I think we all have felt what you are feeling at one time or another (especially when the new property taxes come due). Just make sure you have a job lined up first bfore moving and make sure that the salary can cover the smaller mortgage and smaller taxes. In some areas, the pay is so low that you will struggle just as much there. I've been doing research on Florida, and I've been blown away by how much it costs there and the corresponding low pay. Sometimes we NY'ers forget that we are not the only people in the country struggling. In fact, most people are!

I agree with you on that note... I did do some homework and I could make about 95k down there which I think should be more than enough for a home and cars, food etc... I am also selling my home here so I will have a very little mortgage if any... There's alway Publix or Walmart... lol

Hah! ROI was not involved as we had sold and moved in 1970. Sold house for 30,000 odd thousand.

Dear MissingLI,
I'm a real estate broker in Charlotte, and a North Carolina native so I always hate to hear that someone isn't happy here. But "Home is where the heart is", and I certainly understand why you'd LOVE NY. Sorry to see you go but sincere Best Wishes.
