On the same boat my husband turned down a job last week in raleigh because after all the research we did on wake county schools it wasn't smart to leave the schools here in nassau. The biggest problem was getting special education services for my son, I would end up paying for them in NC. So we decided to stay here and pay NY taxes. But I still love the homes in NC and the area, you can get a beautiful house for $350,000 in apex. But our priority was our son and he's first on out list.
I also believe the taxes in NC will go up, with all the construction and roads they are making, and the schools that have to be built due to the influx of children going there. The grass is always greener?!?!?!? |

You are so spot on with the taxes in NC going up....I live in Apex right now and the amount of building going on here is ridiculous. The idealistic fantasy that "since so many people are moving there, the taxes won't have to go up because there are more people to pay taxes"...is just that; and idealistic fantasy. There is a need for more roads, schools, shopping centers, houses, resevioirs (most people, espeically those moving from the Northeast and Great Lakes areas....don't seem to realize that there aren't any natural lakes or large rivers around here.....water is at a premium and all the lakes are manmade reseviors; falls lake, jordan lake; etc)....they are projecting that the need for a new resevior will be extremely serious by 2009; and they won't be able to have one ready until 2015).

long island is a farce............making believe people, there believe lives, selling each other their dreams and making everyone think it is there reality.
when in essence they go home are are in debt up to thre eyeballs!!!! get real long islanders, most of your homes were either passed down to you in the expensive towns and the rest are up to hock to the sky!!!!!! |

The bottom line is NY is out of control with house prices , taxes, etc. If you are not bringing home at least 100k a year you are not going to own a home on long island. The average person does not make 100k a year they are lucky to make half of that and what about the single people, single mothers etc. You can't even rent an apartment on long island making less than 40k a year. In NC you have single parents affording to own a home you have college kids waiting on tables a few nights a week affording to live on their own that is not possible in NY.

again......wait to see how long that lovely possiblity lasts in NC as more and more people from expensive areas of the country, LI included, keep moving here. Long Island used to be an afforable "promiseland" not too long ago too.

right to some degree - deserve a few gold stars- My friend still lives there- she is an an abusive marriage- she stays bcs she says- I have a mercedes and live by the water Meanwhile she owns nothing, her husband physically abuses her and is in debt up to his eyeballs as well. IMO, maybe some are happy there, but alot of superficiality exists. I am so glad to be out- sunny |

People on this board are freakin' delerious.
What the hell does your friend's sh*thead husband have to do with LI? Are you implying the ONLY LI has occurances such as this? |

The fact is, there are many areas that are "hot." They are hot b/c of people moving from pricier areas. Houes prices will go up, b/c the money is now there. More people will come b/c of these great deals. more infrastructure will need to be built, requiring millions, hence taxes will rise. More people with more money will want to spend that money, so a lot of the retail, restaurants, etc. will become more pricey, leading to higher rents, leading to higher prices. Then the salaries of civil servants, like teachers, cops, etc., will have to increase so they can afford to live in the areas.
Guess what, you are now living in the same type of place that you left. |

thanks for the laugh. No dont put words in my mouth. It is just the only way SHE could afford to live there- so she brags about it- much like the earlier post concerning her Escalade. I guess it is the slim thread some have to hold on to. Whatever. ![]() |
