Saw a sign out front advertising two Big Macs for six dollars and decided to check it out. Before placing my order I told the cashier I was in no hurry and asked if I could have the meat patties freshly cooked. He seemed new and did not understand what I meant so he called his manager over.

I told the manager what I wanted, she smiled saying "Yes" and walked toward the ladies in the rear preparing the food before relaying my request to them in a language I did not understand. I looked at the cashier and asked what language she is speaking and he replied "Spanish, the ladies back there don't speak English."

I did not say anything to the cashier or manager but I did ask myself, "How does a person get a job in MacDonalds if they can't speak English? How do non-English speaking employees deal with food handling and preparation training I assume MacDonalds gives to all their employees?

Frankly, I find it extremely unprofessional and rude when I hear employees conversing, conducting or carrying on business in a language that I am not familiar with and is not native to this country.

I am wondering what thought my fellow Long Islanders have about this issue? Is it rude and unprofessional for employees to speak in a foreign language when conducting business in an American store?

Pay more and English speaking people will be knocking down the door to work there. Personally I would rather have a Spanish speaking adult than an English speaking teenager preparing my food.

until this country adds it to the constitution, we don't have an official language.

2 Big Macs for $6 is an awesome deal. I would go back even if they spoke Chinese.

If you think thats a good deal, Mickey D's had big macs going for $2.19 in SD when i was living there. Everything was cheap out there though, last summer I remember getting gas for $2.49-2.53 alot. I lived like a king haha.
