Does anyone manage multi-family? Can you tell me how many days it typically takes to inspect an apartment for approval in Suffolk County?

Each town administers it's own program. Here in Huntington, you need to contact Huntington Housing Authority (631) 427-6220.

I hear Seaford has a lot of section 8 and it has a frequent running LIRR station Get in touch with the Town of Hempstead. BTW, are you black or Latino? If so then forget about Seaford, try Freeport.

Dorothy renting to section 8 tenants has it's pros and conds A big pro is the guaranteed check that you receive each month.
You have already experienced a con - red tape, bureaucracy and sometimes apathetic tenants. It is the prospective renter who needs to keep on their case and keep in touch with you to let you know what's going on in terms of her rent subsidy.
Does she have a phone? If so call her and give her an amount of time that she needs to get her act together and move in. Otherwise put the apartment or home back on the market.
It's not fair to leave you hanging and many people are scrambling to find living quarters right now because the school year is almost here.
I have had good a cooperative section 8 tenants, by the way.

Sheena ; this was a very old post. The tenant has been there for over 2 years now and been a major headache. I cant wait til the lease runs out so I can get the house fixed up and sold.
