Section 8
Does anyone know how long it takes the section 8 dept to inspect a house that is available for rental. Our proposed tenant sent in the paperwork in Nov 27th and we havent heard anything yet. The house is finished and ready for a tenant and when i call SS they just say ; we are very busy.
thanks
dorothy

If anything your perspective tenant is the one who needs to try and push for the inspection as her move-in date nears.
When is he/she supposed to move in?
Make sure that the deal you want with your tenant is what is outlined in the Section 8 lease.
Only the lease you sign with the agency counts (in case you aren't aware); side deals with tenants are not legally enforceable.
Also, the agency is very unresponsive including and/or especially if you have problems with tenants or whatever. At least in the boroughs. Don't know if it's any different in Long Island.
Section 8 has the advantage of getting a check to a landlord on time, but there are some disadvantages as well.
If you're a new landlord or new with Section 8 tenants, do your research, Dorothy, so you'll know the deal and what you're signing up for.

She was supposed to move in today ; at least she wanted to move in today. But I havent heard anything. She is moving from another secion 8 house ; the landlord is selling that house.
I may have to either wait it out, or tell her I cannot wait anymore.
thanks for all your suggestions. We have been landlords before, but never with section 8.

It depends upon the town. Some are more responsive then others. It's true that the tenant needs to push for it. She should be down there telling them that she is going to be homeless unless they send an inspector over asap.

Well, the house where she lives is being sold, and its probably safe to assume that landlords aren't waiting in line to offer her apartments...
Plus, it's very cold outside.
