Nicest towns in Long island?
I'm having a really difficult time in deciding where it is I'd like to move. Between nj or long island. So I wanted to know what are the nicest and best towns to move to. I'm looking for a home thats no more than 900k. Anyone have suggestions?

You may want to familiarize yourself with the local geography
First, you may want to familiarize yourself with the local geography:
Excluding the western end of Long Island that is part of New York City, there are 2 cities and 13 towns (as well as 2 Indian reservations) and the 13 towns (3 in Nassau and 10 in Suffolk) are further sub-divided into 96 villages (municipal corporations) and 195 hamlets (unincorporated areas), yielding 293 communities (2 + 96 + 195 = 293).
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

What exactly are you looking for. The nicest to us may not be the nicest to you. For 900k you could live in many places and it could be hell in a hand basket but heaven to others.
Are you looking for easy commute to the city (NYC)
Are you looking for shopping with 4 miles of home
Are you looking for golf or tennis
Are you looking for acres
Are you looking for water front
etc..
Need more info.

This is one of those topics that will go off in a million different directions with people from every town bashing and supporting their areas and schools, etc. Your best bet is to research the copious amount of information in the discussion boards on pretty much every town in Long Island and go from there. This topic has also already been done under other discussion threads. Best of luck in your research. There is already a great deal of opinions and feedback noted for your review.

Really, there are so many factors, both tangible and not, that go into a decision like this, you really need to determine what's most important. $900K gets you a lot of areas to look into.
Do you want to be close the NYC? Great SDs? Nice downtown? Old vs. new houses? Close to the water? Close to malls? Town-only police and fire? Demographic make-up (race, religon, affluence)? Close to family/friends? The list goes on. You should really think about everything and come back with a list...maybe it would help. Then, once you have some advise, go and see the towns for yourself.
Hope this helps.
