Hey everyone,

So i am hoping to build a freestanding greenhouse in my back yard. This is my first home and as said in the title the first time i have done anything like this on my property. I have no idea what hoops i need to jump through with regards to permitting or things of that nature.

The structure is going to be 10x10x10 built on concrete pads

Thank you in advance for any information!

My husband built a greenhouse for me in 2006. It's on a block and gravel base. It's made of old windows, an old door and sliding glass door panels for the roof. I'm in town of brookhaven. It's about 6' x10'

We did not get permits. We have had a permit for another project since and had no trouble getting the CO so I don't think its a problem. Ours is technically temporary because its not on a cement foundation.
I was able to find a picture of it during construction.

Go to your town/village hall and enquire.

Every locality has its own rules.

Hi there KellyFG, I like your greenhouse! I also like how you recycled the old windows, doors, et cetera! I'm a gardening type & it sure would be nice to have something like this in the back yard. Have you been using it? Just curious & wanted to tell you I like it!

Thanks! I use it in the spring to start seeds. A few years ago i had a larger garden so i used it almost year round. I also use it as a place to store my bird seed, small gardening tools and supplies for my chickens. It functions as an infirmary and nursery for my chickens at times.

It reminds me a little bit of a 'doll house' one of my Dad's friends built for my Sister & me when we were kids - he was handy & creative & after we outgrew the use as a dollhouse, my family variously used it as a place to store outdoor supplies, a cool place for small animals to rest, et cetera. It was very nice & functional as well. I'm glad you're using yours - very nice!

I love this! I am seriously considering building a greenhouse in the coming years. How did you go about building that greenhouse? Do you have some sort of instructions?

I would definatley make sure its portable or movable and not a "fixed Structre" otherwise you will need to file for a permit.
