Another budget gimmick gone astray, so how do they make up for the lost income jaywalking cameras. This was the right thing to do but it leaves a big hole in a budget that was already in deficit.

Mangano presses lawmakers to replace lost camera revenues - Newsday

And he made the budget worse by spending all of the money on this to begin with. Of course, they are talking the usual cuts (Social services, etc). never do they ever talk about cutting their own staff, salaries, etc.

don't forget the $6mil to cut down trees... FFS, south oyster bay road looks absolutely terrible now without the overhead canopy - whoTF really wants to see power lines overhead instead? Think Hempstead Tpke but worse with the dilapidated mixed fencing. And he's probably going to do more according to word on the street.

Why did they cut down all of those trees?

The reason given was that the roots were tearing up the sidewalk - they cut down all the trees on Seamans Neck Road between Hicksville Road and I think East Broadway school also.

I think it looks better. Most of those trees were overgrown, diseased, dropping branches on the road and sidewalks in even mild winds, creating mold and moss from no sunlight and wet leaves and were tearing up the concrete. Good riddance.

Please ---they cut down perfectly healthy beautiful trees that took centuries to grow so their buddies could make money on the contracts for tree removal and wood removal. We need trees not just because they're beautiful and make surburban nassau different from some inner city ghetto but they absorb water from rainstorms and absorb carbon dixode and other pollutants while letting out more fresh oxygen, they act as a barrier to high winds, rains and sun. The court issued an injunction brought by some taxpayers but then changed its mind and let them destroy our landscape. There is a huge protest movement ongoing - facebook pages and change.org trying to stop him from making other neighborhoods look like disgusting Bronx projects but Mangano thinks he is beyond listening to anyone so we will likely suffer more of this devastation over the next few years while his buddies that are getting these contracts make a fortune. There are photos of the so called torn up sidewalks all over the place showing the lies and for the few places that tree roots are a problem they could have been dug up and sidewalks replaced with higher water barriers but that takes brains and planning and this was easier. It will take us centuries to replenish the environment again. It is just disgusting.
