I get a real kick out of the people crying about getting caught speeding in a school zone via camera. What argument can you possible make for speeding in excess of the posted limit? The sign wasn't large enough? Not enough flashing lights to warn you that you'd better obey the law? If there was a cop sitting there you wouldn't speed. You speed and get caught pay the fine. Don't wanna pay don't break the law. I for one am tired of hearing these people cry about it.
Newsday online forum (or comments section...whatever the heck you call it) has about 1200 entries of people screaming at each other on this topic. Seems to be a 60/40 split in people against the cameras.

At least 1100 of those people have double-digit IQs, so there's that.
I don't get the politicians defending someone for getting 11 tickets and acting magnanimous about it?! So what if there wasn't a circus size array of neon warning lights. It's 3 blocks, slow the F down. The speed limit was always there.
That said, the cameras are a complete BS money grab, we all know that. Cops used to enforce the speed limit with no problem. We just stopped enforcing it... until budget shortfalls called for drastic revenue measures. Didn't need a 3rd party Arizona digital collection agency (who take 38% of LI'ers hard earned dough) and $60 million investment to rob the taxpayers under the guise of "safety." Oldest revenue grab in the book.
because unlike going through a red light (red light cameras), this feels like a "gotcha". Poor signage often times doesn't indicate where the school zone starts and ends. It ALSO doesn't help that pols admitted these cameras are to help pay for NCPD pensions.
I hate speeders. I hate lunatic drivers in school zones.
I don't like the cameras only out of principle. It's a cash grab.
Stop bleeding the budget and taxpayers and they wont need cameras to make the money to pay the salaries and pensions because that's all it does. That money aint doing nothing to reduce the deficit.
Did you hear about this yesterday? officials raised property taxes with 5 people in the room, after they said before election day that they wouldn't. Another "gotcha". People are tired of being had.
