honestly, it was around '03 and '04 (housing boom) when things started getting out of control on LI. My friend bought a house in '02 in Bethpage - nice area. Her taxes were $4400. They have doubled in 12 years. She "only" pays $8800 b/c she has a tiny wedge property. And, that's about to change anyway since the the TOB just decided to hike the taxes by another 8.8%

My reply was directed to Forest Hills Daddy who discussed the enhancements which residents of RVC enjoy thanks to forward thinking residents over 100 years ago.

With respect to your friend's tax increase, is the number you're citing for general taxes, school taxes, or a combination?

Not sure how it breaks down, I just heard it's 8.8% hike on property taxes.

Actually Freeport and RVC both have their own power.

RVC taxwise started getting out of control in 2002. RVC has tons of older homes in a great town that since Nassau County had not revalued homes in an extremely long time were way under taxed. Smaller new homes in Freeport paid more taxes than some Old Canterburry houses back in the 1990s

From 2002 right up to 2007 RVC taxes soared. Even more amazing home prices soared at same time. Which ment owning a RVC house got very expensive.

Go to an open house in RVC and ask why seller is selling and you often get their last kid is graduating HS and want to get out as taxes are killing them.

Go online and you see plain old splits on small plots, this one 52x100 with high taxes. This house for sale pays $20,310 in taxes. Really a split on a 52x100 plot paying $20,300 that is crazy.

Imagine... If you paid off that house you'd still be paying 1600+ a month!
