I went to the Source Mall a couple years ago and felt like I was in another country, namely North Korea. It was like some sort of movie set - it looked like a mall but not quite, as most of the storefronts were abandoned and there was barely anyone there aside from us (and the dozens of birds that were weirdly inhabiting the food court).

^^^ Probably the most poorly laid out mail I've ever been in. Never did do a great business, most times it was a ghost town, even from the get-go.

Newsday says this is going to have gaming tables too.

So it will be like Resorts World by JFK?
That place doesn't look too bad.

I personally believe the problem wasn't with the layout, it was competition from Roosevelt Field and just too many stores in general. LI has an over concentration of strip shopping, chain eateries, malls, big box and every other type of retail imaginable. We simply can't support all these stores.

My vote still goes to building a Disney World.

Sweet, I know where I'm headed to find the drunk junkies desperate for a buck.

Saw the News 12 report today and it definitely has me worried. People say they are going to leave Westbury.
The Carle Place side is the only thing propping up the area from full collapse, if those people move out, Westbury is done.
Those homes will become illegal rentals & you know what comes next.
If it looks like its going that way I have to leave too, and if I'm not welcome anywhere else decent on LI then I will leave the island.
Interesting how all the other politicians are silent, except for our Mayor Cavallaro, who I will give credit to for being upset about this. The more I hear, the more I am against this casino too.

We were back in NY this past week and stayed in that area. I did notice that the new mall with the Container Store seemed to be bustling with activity. I recall when the RainForest Café was one of the anchors of the Source mall, but even back then it never really took off.

Several years ago there were some rumblings about Nieman Marcus coming into the area and that didn't pan out either.

As I said several weeks ago, there will be busses from Meadow Brook Point loading up for the penny slots!!!

I haven't seen that mall since it was finished - we stay in that area too when we go up.

Not sure the people who live at Meadow Brook Pointe are the type to wile away their days at the slots, but I guess you never know...
