I actually find Amityville Harbor/Village much more aesthetically pleasing and quaint.

It's bizarre to me, i've heard ppl hype up Massapequa and the rest of SE Nassau as if it was Dix Hills, Rockville Centre, Syosset or Garden City or something and i'm like whoa, I must really be missing something!!
Good schools, nice clean, quiet low crime area with nice mostly well kept houses. Definitely a step up from many of the towns you listed above in your first paragraph IMO, especially lindenhurst or east meadow.

Sunrise is also undergoing a Facelift.

You want depressing, I went to The Source Mall today and it was so eerie, no one there at all, and the only places open you could count on one hand. And then to the Westbury Walmart which actually is even worse than the one at Sunrise. If that casino opens its gonna finish this area for good. Can't be trapped here...just can't.

I see a host of people over time voicing reservations or complaints about Roosevelt Field (or saying they now try to avoid it). Just what exactly has happen that now makes varied members of the population wary of patronizing Roosevelt Field anymore and how did this come to be? The last time I was there and in that general area, it was a rather exciting place to me.

Because it's big and crowded some people hate that. Personally if we have to go to a mall it's the only one we go to.

Interesting reading everyone's commentary on the malls. I like Walt Whitman and Smith Haven. I only go to Roosevelt Field for David's Tea and only then enter the Bloomingdales entrance via the Meadowbrook. (Don't mind at all driving through the Bronx or Manhattan, yet getting around Roosevelt Field feels zooish to me). Walt Whitman and Smith Haven seem to be strategic in their expansion despite the nationwide declining mall phenomenon. In the short time I've lived on Long Island, Smith Haven has placed a strong emphasis on using available space for incorporating nicer chain restaurants into their fold (which always seem to be packed after 5pm!) In the case of Walt Whitman, there are also some neat specialty stores and services which necessitate or improve a consumer's shopping experience by actually going into a physical store rather than purchasing online (West Elm in particular comes to mind).

I go to the gym next door. I forgot socks one day and decided to grab some at Walmart. Never again. It lived up to all the stereotypes. Glad it's closing. I'm interested to see what they will replace it with.

That was the original plan but they delayed it.
