Schools suck in Wilmington...stay in the Research Triangle if you go to NC.
Garden City, Northport Village if you want a little relief from the work area and a wonderful feel as far as a small town village goes...North Greenlawn (Harborfields)..Rockville Centre...750k in this market will give you a lot of choices. Good luck to you...If I had your options, I would find something in Northport/Centerport but be sure to calculate and try out my GC commute. North shore is great, but can be off the beaten path as far as convenience goes.

Despite the $ amt, we need to know other things you are looking for.
property size, commuting needs (max DH should have to commute daily to GC), other wants and needs.

If I had to pick a home with a $750 k budget I would be looking at the Dix Hills area. Just my 2 cents.

I thought they were more pricey than that.
(I wouldn't buy in Garden City even if I could though.)

There's some blocks on the "fringes" like the ones I live on.

I'm definately interested in Northport. It seems like you get a little more for your money out there. Are there any areas I should avoid in Northport? How far would the commute to GC be? I saw a couple of houses out on a little island off Northport (sorry...I'm from AZ and have never been to LI), is that a desirable area? GC concerns me in that for the type of house I'd want it would be too old and need too much work, and it might be bordering on a sketchy area. RVC I haven't looked into yet. Any areas I should focus on?? The victorian homes sound lovely. What area are they in?? Thanks you guys...you are wonderful!! If the job goes through with hubby I'll be out in the next month or so to house hunt.

From Northport to GC with traffic during rush hour might take you about 45mins to one hour each way. You definitely get more property in Suffolk. You might even try an area called Fort Salonga.
