Smithtown backing the park.....you can buy 1 acre. 600,000-2 horses=50,000 & have $100,000 left over for a nice car.

Port Washington, Roslyn, Great Neck or East Hills (upscale ritzy place of Roslyn where many houses are all 1/2 1/3 land so you can expand)
Plus no offense meant but if you look at us news and world report annual report on the best nonspecialized high schools which are in Long Island
Great Neck South
Roslyn
This means these areas also tend to have good resale value if you need to move again after 3-5 years.

I'd buy a shack in Puerto Rico, put the $$ into 12 CD's and live off the interest. I'm not going to work 14 hours a day to live in this mess and pay these crazy taxes!
For what ? 1/2 the kids in my sons 2nd grade class cant speak English so the teachers are now teaching and grading on kindergarden level
I have a CD licence, drive for Hampton Jitney and still cant to afford it
Face it folks America is finished and going down the toilet just like the Roman Empire
Perhaps If I had $750K my family and I could hide it then leave the country and come back in via the Mexican border and live free, get Medicaid, get money and free food from the Catholic church as illegels.
Hell Hiliary Clinton said no woman or person is Illegal so if she wins its a free for all
Why work right ?
Afain my choice
If I had $750k my family and I would be the hell out of here before the dollar equils the Peso or the goverment steals it!!!

Not on Long Island, that's for sure....
But I guess if you're settled in on LI and want to stay here, I would say North Shore of Nassau County.

For those who may not be familiar with Saint James:
Saint James is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the east part of the Town of Smithtown, in the northwest part of Suffolk County, along the Smithtown/Brookhaven town line.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Saint James is bordered on the north by the Village of Head of the Harbor; on the east by the Hamlet of Stony Brook and the Village of Lake Grove in the Town of Brookhaven (the Smithtown/Brookhaven Town line); on the south by the Hamlet of Nesconset; and, on the west by the Village of the Branch and the Hamlet of Smithtown.
The Hamlet of Saint James has a different border than does the "Saint James, NY 11780" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Saint James, NY 11780" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Saint James and a place can have other than a "Saint James, NY 11780" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Saint James): places that have a "Saint James, NY 11780" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Saint James are in the Village of Head of the Harbor and the Village of Nissequogue; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Saint James with a "Smithtown, NY 11787" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

We're in the same situation. In the last few years we have moved from west to south from south to north and now considering LI. That is one of the places we have no idea about. We would have to be close to Bethany, NY, meaning driving distance. Does anybody have any suggestions as to where to start looking for a house. Home price would have to be between 500 k and 650 K, not too old since hubby isn't the most handy guy out there (does changing lightbulbs count?), some yard etc, schools are important and so is the safety in the area as we have small kids.

Bethany is way upstate, about 8 hours away from Long Island. Check out the NY part of this forum. In Genesee county 500K will probably let you buy the whole county
Bethpage is on Long Island

For those who may not be familiar with Bethpage:
Previously known as Central Park, Bethpage is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central part of the Town of Oyster Bay, in the east part of Nassau County, along the Oyster Bay/Hempstead town line.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Bethpage in the Town of Oyster Bay is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Plainview; on the east by the Hamlet of Old Bethpage and the Village of Farmingdale; on the south by the Hamlet of Plainedge; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Levittown (the Oyster Bay/Hempstead town line) and the Hamlet of Hicksville.
The Hamlet of Bethpage has a different border than does the "Bethpage, NY 11714" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Bethpage, NY 11714" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Bethpage and a place can be in the Hamlet of Bethpage and have other than a "Bethpage, NY 11714" mailing address): places that have a "Bethpage, NY 11714" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Bethpage are in the Hamlet of Plainedge and in the Hamlet of Levittown in the Town of Hempstead; and, at the same time, there are places that are in the Hamlet of Bethpage that have a "Hicksville, NY 11801" and a "Plainview, NY 11803" mailing address.
