Don't know what you eat John but we do our shopping at Trader Joes every week for a family of four, the rest from Costco about once a month. About the only time we go to a regular supermarket is to pick up a few specialty items.
And you can absolutely do all your shopping in Fairway too, they have everything - it's just expensive.
Try TJs. Maybe you're just afraid because they don't have the brands you're used to but that makes them cheaper (and often better IMO).
I have rarely seen a Shop-Rite, KK, and S&S and Waldbaums take away customers from COSTCO, TJ's or TGT once these latter chains become established in a locality. I have, however, seen the opposite happen quite a few times. That area around Fortunoff is over-retailed and no new chains will take the risk of going head to head with the giants already there.
Within 6 miles of my house there are 2 Stop & Shop, 2 King Kullen, 2 Waldbaums, Wild By Nature, Trader Joe's, Aldi, Pathmark, Whole Foods, Costco, BJ's, and 3 small Asian groceries. Fairway recently opened, and Best Market opened around the holidays. (Not bad for being in the ' middle of nowhere ' as someone else implied.) A good number of these are in an area which might fit the over-retailed category.
IIRC, poor areas like Wyandanch lacked a supermarket. Does Westbury lack a decent supermarket?

I shop Trader Joe's regularly and enjoy many of their TJ's items. Meat Farms is my go - to for meat when I am not out-of-state. KK for when I need something quick cause I ran out while cooking, Uncle Guiseppe's for specialty things.
I agree this area has no good supermarket. Trader joes is alright. Many occasions I couldnt find what I need and have to go to stop and shop. I can change my receipe to match what trader joes has but why. Fairway has everything but hard to find things and pretty expensive. C town on post ave I rarely go. Associates on OCR past post ave I dont really go also since stock are more for hispanic. Ended up I go to north shore farm in mineola or S&S on glen cove road the most.
i think fortunoff building can get rent out to multiple business. Maybe bottom floor for supermarket. Middle floor for recreation....etc. Gallery of Westbury used to be a flat land and they make it a shopping center. Source mall can do the same.

Beat them back to Elmont now - so who do we have in Elmont to fight? The Democrat Assemblyman is a boy-child and his slightly older sister is the County Legislature. Think Kate Murray will protect them too? Surrounding neighborhoods just knew this was coming - it was on the special million dollar ballot with the colliseum vote and the taxpayers said no then - Mangano just does not care.
