I was wondering if there was any way for me to view specific crime statistics for each hamlet on Long Island, mainly Suffolk County? If I contacted the Suffolk Police Department do you think they would release it to me, or is there anyway that I can find it online? I am also interested in a comprehensive list of homicides in Suffolk, especially in the Smithtown area. Thanks for the help (if you at least attempt to help me; if you don't, thanks for nothing).

You might be able to get information by Precinct. Here's the Suffolk County website - check and see if you find what you're looking for or find a number to call:
I've actually looked on NeighborhoodScout before and that's the best I've gotten, although like you guys said, I'm not sure how up-to-date those statistics are. Plus the area it covers goes by zip code and not actual hamlet, but the population is of the hamlet, and thus I feel that the crime rates are distorted. Plus it doesn't like murders separately.
Uniform Crime Reports provide data at the County level, but that's really not targeting your level of specificity.
A lot of cities in other states have 'open' reporting systems where you can search via neighborhood or zip code for crime data you are interesting in reviewing--if you're looking for numerical, statistical information, it should be publicly available, something you could request via the PD. I'd be interested in hearing the outcome of your search for a record system--send me a PM if you find out further information. Surprised something like this doesn't exist for Long Island (well, not really surprised it doesn't exist in searchable form online, though surprised someone hasn't complained by now in order to render this information readily available to the public in database form).
Or just hit this link and put in the zip code you want information on. www.spotcrime.com
