Looking to buy a house in west Babylon (North babylon schools) which is more affordable than West Babylon (West Babylon schools or Lindenhurst (lindenhurst schools not Copiague)... Any opinions on which would be preferred. I just had a child so schools will be important. Overall thoughts on the neighborhoods and schools would be appreciated as I am coming from Queens and not too familiar.
I went to North Babylon HS 04-08 and it was good. I turned out very well and if you wanted a good education then it was there for you. Had tons of friends of every race&religion and we all got along well and came from middle class families. I agree with the other posters who said that The 3 Babylon's are nicer looks-wise than the Lindenhurst's.
However, it didn't really have a unified community feel since all of the various neighborhoods making up the district were separated by highways or parks. Also note that some parts of this area border a rough town called Wyandanch...but Lindenhurst also borders Copiague which is not that great either (though not as bad as wyandanch)
In this case, I would just go for the house that you like most...there probably isn't much of a difference in the actual quality of the education.
I live in Huntington now

Buy the house you love and can afford. You have NO idea what your child needs in terms of gifted classes, or special ed, or anything at this age. So, you're trying to do the best--as we all do-- but it may have to be changed later on and you may need to switch districts at some point. I did. Good luck!
Thanks for the feedback all, it's really looking like they are both a toss up, hoping I can't go wrong with either.
Just as all over analytical parents (myself included), you're always going to second guess yourself. Just buy the home you love. It's not like you're choosing between the worst school in the world vs the top one. They'll be ok wherever you put them.
IT was the 90's but I graduated from Lindenhurst in 1999. From what I remember lindy and west Babylon were about the same with north Babylon being underneath them. Regular Babylon is above them but not by much. Keep in mind taxes for the Babylon district can be double what they are in Lindenhurst and west Babylon.
None of them are that much better than the other. Buy the house you love!
