So my son will be starting school in Fall this year. I got a letter from the school that I can order supplies from www.1stdayofschool.com.

Just wondering what most parents do.

Also - if I want to get the supplies myself - can I do that ?

Ordering them from the school is soooo much easier than tracking them all down yourself in Target in August. And it's not much more expensive. When I lived in Garden City they started giving us this option - it's great because you know you have EXACTLY what the school wants you to have.

You can get them yourself if you want, and if this is your oldest maybe you do, but if I could outsource this chore I sure would. After 9 years I'm totally over shopping for school supplies x 3 kids.

Thank you - This is for my first child. I wanted to shop with him so he gets a little excited about School...but I ended up just ordering the supplies from the website. Thanks for your feedback.

if he wants maybe next year I can go supplies shopping with him.

I remember as a child it was my favorite thing to do...and pick out cool supplies for the school year.

Yeah, I used to love that too. You can open the supplies and show them to him when they come, though!

Do the 1stDay. You will be making plenty of trips to the store regardless. Buy a good quality bookbag but be cheap on lunchbox, gloves and hats. They get lost or ruined quickly.

Most of it goes into a big pool anyway so you may as well just do what's easiest for you. I think the only things they kept for themselves are the pencil cases and folders (I made sure to get the thicker plastic ones that will last all year).

A bit off topic but since I have no kids or grandkids, I am just wondering. Does the school get any kind of incentive for your using this? I understand the district itself can't, but is it run as a fundraising for say the PTA?
