Need opinion/advice.

4,100 sq ft home, 4 zones...any idea on $ difference between oil and gas heat? Would filling up on oil in summer even out the cost difference? Thanks!

No it would not.

The only time summer fill-ups make sense is if it is propane.

Oh no it wouldn't. We have had both gas and oil and gas wins hands down. We average at least a $35.00/mo. difference with gas than our neighbors. My opinion only, I have had both electric and gas stoves & I love cooking with gas over electric, same with the dryer.

Gas is better - a little cheaper, definitely cleaner. And no puffbacks. Ever.

Thanks everyone. Does anyone have a rough idea of what we'd be looking at per month for that square footage? Is oil double the price???

But oil never has the gas problem of "house to confetti", even if it is rare.

That happened to a childhood friend's mom. Stove top had been left on, not ignited, and the mom sparked something. She lived, miraculously.

Your usage will depend 40% on your temp preferences and 60% on how well your home is insulated.
My 2100 square foot home is kept at 67 degrees 24/7 and burns through about 900 - 1000 gallons / year.
At a current price of around $3.00 / gallon, you can do the math.

Does the house already have oil? Can the prior owner give some estimates? Can you call the prior delivery company to see if they have a record?

Thanks for your help. Homeowner claimed to not know, just said it's like heating two homes. She did mention the company she uses. I was on the fence about calling them, but I think that's the wisest move. Thanks again!
