Why so many homes for sale in Suffolk County? (New York: transplants, real estate)

I am wondering if its just time to leave long island and move down south somewhere. Maybe move to Tampa or North Carolina for a better less expensive life.
Move to Mississippi! Tampa and NC are getting expensive with all the Yankees coming down there with money ...
I know but Tampa and NC are cheaper than NY. Plus the job markets are good there. A lot of companies have been moving off the island and going to those places. I still have to work for a living so if I relocate its to a place with jobs. I am a certified medical assistant. I get more offers in Tampa than I do here on long island. Plus what I would give to be fishing on the weekends in Clearwater in the winter time.
Doesn't surprise me in the least. Friends of mine on LI entering their 6th decade.......are ready to hit the road. Three have closed on their homes in the past several months.
A couple of more ideas from me (in Nassau). The Fed has been eying an interest rate rise, so people want to put their homes on the market before it happens.
The market has been depressed for a long time due to the Great Recession. Now that it's recovered somewhat, I think there's pent up desire to finally move.
Agreed. The market is starting to rebound, and interest rates are still low. Some are leaving LI, but I've come across a lot of families that are simply upgrading. Young couples/families bought starter homes at the top of the market and couldn't get out w/o losing their whole investment. Now, it seems like anyone that can move is trying to do it before rates go back up.

You can't find a good job here and you don't have the burden of having a home to sell. What's there to wonder about, just go. Don't look back.

moved from LI almost 15 years to Tampa. Coming back to LI end of the year- the heat is ridiculous as it's summer (80's to high 90's) March through January and then cold in February (30's to 50's) and the cost of living is starting to catch up to NY prices. Hope you plan on buying a boat if you want to fish as there is no bridge fishing or surf casting for anything of size/value to eat unfortunately. Plus if you do get a boat, make sure it's under 20ft with a low draft AND a 4 stroke engine on the back as you will be in shallow water all the time with oyster beds and sand bars (hence the need for a shallow water boat) and if you decide to go out for "deep sea" fishing, be prepared to haul a$$ 20 miles offshore to get into 30ft of water (hence the need for a 4 stroke engine).
Depends on where NC is. I did some research on the durham/cary area where most tech jobs are. A 100k salary on LI is equivalent to about 80k ish there. House is bigger but then utility and food is more. The best is if you sell your house here e.g. 500k, and buy a 300k house there. But nice places like chapel hill houses also go for over 600-700k easy.
Talking about the heat....when I did my research, it was in winter (of course I want to move to warmer place after last winter). But past weekend it has been humid and warm on LI. I think I am changing my idea moving south.....

Tampa might be more expensive than before but there's still a 40%-60% COL jump from Tampa to Nassau County. Perhaps only 40% to Suffolk. Don't fool yourself that LI prices have stood still for the past 15 years. Even a lousy place like Hempstead is 33% more.
I live in the Medford area and there are so many homes for sale. What's going on? Are people just leaving Long Island? I have never seen so many for sale signs in my life. Would love to get others views on this.
Maybe many Medford residents selling before the casino is built?
It could also be that folks are putting their house on the market in an effort to sell before the next school year.
One word: Property Taxes. Sorry, that's two. But they're sky-high, with very little return. Sane people will leave and discover LI's property taxes are the worst in the nation.
