Yet gun owners are considered felons if they put a flash suppressor or collapsible stock on their rifles. the rifle is just as deadly, but it makes the gun look "meaner" so that's not allowed. Meanwhile, the amount of people killed in NYS due to DWI is equivalent to a jumbo jet crashing leaving no survivors - once a year! How backwards is our society?!?!
Apparently the lawyer & alcohol lobbies have deep enough pockets for these politicians to stick their grubby hands in and allow the carnage to continue...Thank you Cuomo and all the other sellouts!!
Did you know that this is the reason so many police departments changed their vehicle graphics/paint scheme from black & white to more colorful/friendly logos? People complained that the black & white scheme was too intimidating.
Every week I see in the newspaper that people being arrested for driving with revoked or suspended licenses (sometimes multiple suspensions!), uninsured vehicles, etc. while driving drunk.
The consequences for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th+ offences are clearly not stringent enough. It should result in mandatory jail time. If the person who owns the car driven during these subsequent offences did not report it stolen, they should be charged as well (making it less likely that someone will loan their car to a person with an outstanding suspension.)
A friend was killed by a drunk driving illegal immigrant who did not have a license. The illegal was driving someone else's car down the wrong side of the Wantagh Parkway when he sideswiped the car my friend was a passenger in. Danny was carpooling to work a little before 5 AM in order to support his wife and children.
Yeah it's pretty sickening how selfish these people are. Just in the last week:
- drunk rear-ends family of 4 on Southern State killing husband and 2 kids, mom left to live life on her own.
- drunk driver of a family of 4 doing 80, kids not even buckled, mom in passenger seat doesn't seem to care
- drunk t-bones limo killing 4 of 8 20-somethings celebrating a birthday out east
People should be more vigilant about reporting suspected drunk drivers too.
I don't care if it's illegals, as I hear just as many lily white males doing the same.
Alcohol itself has caused way too many families to suffer the rest of their lives. If there was a God, there would never have been alcohol.
It will never end. You cant even blame it on the ongoing young people turning 21 because so many of these accidents are far older. As long as alcohol is legal, this will happen. Drunks have no good judgement when deciding if they can make it home. Every other driver out there is a sitting duck, unfortunately. T
That statistic of 13 people per day was completely fabricated. King was quoting an article which reported that an AAA Foundation for Traffic study "found 20 percent of fatal accidents involve at least one driver who lacks a valid license." Go to that study, however, and it turns out that these are "suspended, revoked or otherwise invalid licenses," not necessarily fake licenses of illegal immigrants. There are actually no statistics that show any incidences of drunk driving by illegal immigrants.
The idea that you think driving driving and murdering is deeply engrained in Latin culture (and that Hispanics are "peasants") is not only untrue, but is reprehensibly bigoted. Federal statistics, however, paint and opposite picture - first generation migrants (illegal and legal) have a *lower* incidence of crime than the balance of the general population. But I know you don't care about truths when your subjective gut feeling tells you otherwise.
But please continue to take pride in your uninformed and xenophobic belief that migrants are comprised almost exclusively of liquor swilling Mexican laborers-by-day, murderers by night. Ignoring facts and statistics and instead trying to (bizarrely) dig up personal information about me are signs of desperation and ignorance.

Source??
You're gonna need to back that up...

Do we really have the money and prison space to to incarcerate everyone who so much as looks at a beer when we're letting rapists and murderers go with light sentences? Plus, if you make those sentences harsh enough, people will start fleeing from the police just like violent offenders do.
Illegal immigration doesn't help either. The Hispanic peasants we're getting have decidedly unenlightened views when it comes to driving while intoxicated.
I agree with you that having a couple beers with dinner is not a problem for the majority of people and should not be punishable as long as they are not impaired. The BAC % has to be above .05 to be breaking the law (which makes sense to me if you run the calcs).
What doesn't make sense is the punishments are not even close to harsh enough for Aggravated DWI and DWI. Penalties for alcohol or drug-related violations | New York State DMV - there should be mandatory years served in prison, especially for Agg DWI. Most people lawyer up and get off pretty easy.
