Default Correcting NEWSDAY's Community profile: Islip Terrace

Correcting NEWSDAY's Community profile: Islip Terrace

Relying on a map that shows city, town, village and postal zone, but not hamlet, borders, in its weekly (Friday) Community Profile, NEWSDAY once again mistakes the borders of a same-named postal zone for the borders of the community whose name the postal zone "shares".

Here's the NEWSDAY Community Profile:

Buying in Islip Terrace -- Newsday.com

Islip Terrace is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southwest section of the Town of Islip, in the southwest part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Islip Terrace in the Town of Islip is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Central Islip and the Hamlet of North Great River; on the east by the Hamlet of North Great River; on the south by the Hamlet of East Islip; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Islip.

The Hamlet of Islip Terrace has a different border than does the "Islip Terrace, NY 11752" postal zone (i.e., a place can have an "Islip Terrace, NY 11752" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Islip Terrace and a place can have other than an "Islip Terrace, NY 11752" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Islip Terrace): places that have an "Islip Terrace, NY 1752" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Islip Terrace are in the Hamlet of Central Islip and the Hamlet of North Great River; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Islip Terrace with a "Central Islip, NY 11722" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):
