I moved to Suffolk 4 years ago, and I'm in search of an MD, that takes insurance, that believes in alternative medicine.

I don't want a doctor who immediately resorts to drugs. I had one in Bellmore a long time ago, but apparently he was involved in some kind of scandal lol so I won't be returning to him!

It's almost impossible to search the web for what I am looking for. All I find are NDs (naturpathic doctors) which don't take insurance. I just want an MD whose open to the idea, that drugs are not always the only way. I'm tired of doctors that prescribe antibiotics for viral infections.

Does anyone go to such a doctor that could recommend them?

Thanks

The only one I know of on Long island is Dr. Christopher Calapai. He has an office on Manetto Hill Rd in Syosset, and one in East Meadow. He does a radio show on weekends, his website will have the information. You'll have to pay up front, but they will submit the insurance claims, and you'll get reimbursed for whatever your Out-Of-Network coverage is.

If you can dig up some archived News 12 video, when they used to have their special weekend programming, there was a short program looped all weekend about Long Island naturally or something like that. There were several Long Island doctors who would be guests who would advocate certain natural non-pharm. or less invasive forms of treatment.

I currently have an in-network doctor who accepts insurance and offers some alternative treatments, but she's in Manhattan and she's a specialist, not a G.P. The problem that I had with her is that the insurance will cover the office visit, but if she administers some sort of drug alternative, I have to pay for that "non-drug" out of pocket.

In Manhattan, there's plenty of them. Dr. Richard Ash, Dr. Patrick Fratellone (who worked for the late Dr. Robert Atkins), Dr. Eric Braverman, Dr. Fred Pescatore, there's a lot of them.
