I come back to clarify since you expressed similar experience.

The "flickering" was not fast or dance-like like that of a candle. But a slow pulsating flicker half of a second peak to trough and a rather constant frequency. Not like the jumpy flickers of a candle on a birthday cake. This may also be due to shifts in the orientation of the (what I assume is a lantern) as it oscillated bobbing in the wind, and not due to the actual flame flickering.

The softness of the pulsating flickering may be due to how far away the light was of (what I still assume to be a flame sent up in lantern)

This "object" exhibited no noise and seemed to drift with the wind. And was way too high up to notice any body which contained the light.

The main differences from our account seem to be the height of the light, and the behavior? What I saw was bobbing and drifting around nearly directly overhead due to how high it was but even likely so many miles away to the east, much like how you may be driving on the highway alongside a plane, and its relative apparent position in terms of degrees and minutes to you slowly changes simply due to how far away it is regardless of whether its going 250 or 300 mph.

Here is an example of a Chinese lantern for sake of identification assistance.

EDIT - Please DONT TRY THIS AT HOME. Fire is dangerous and never use it without the presence of an adult. THIS IS NOT A TOY.
