Anyone know if there are restrictions on tree removals in South Salem area? I am looking to remove 5-stories oak trees on my property.

Sure, why bother calling the Town? Trust the cementheads we have around here. Solid plan.

Why would you do that? Do you realize how much removing shade trees devalues a property?

Every time I see a comment from you, I can't help but think that you are just a complete d*ck. But hey, at least you are consistent right?

Maybe take up yoga. Center that Chi.

Not just your property but your neighbors property. The difference in value between essentially identical houses on a street with mature trees versus no trees/ornamental dwarf trees is verifiable and shown in many studies.

Some towns (I have no idea about the OP's town) restrict removal of trees above a certain diameter without a permit from the town - the tree needs to be actually dying for example. Not surprising considering the value of them to the community as a whole. Stops a-hole flippers and developers coming in, with no interest in the neighborhood other than a quick $, from changing the character of the neighborhood, with some of those trees 150 yrs or more old, on a whim. Mature trees are community assets. Unfortunately, seems only upscale communities generally realize this. Staten-Islanding streets with cement and chainlink wire-fences is more popular.

Am I wrong? Why would any even remotely intelligent or rational person listen to the advice of an anonymous nobody on the internet, when calling the Town not only gets you an official answer, but probably a quicker answer as well? Especially when there are hundreds or thousands of dollars in fines at risk? But you're entitled to your opinion - even if it's crap.

OP, NO tree can be removed from the front of your property without a permit. If the trees are NOT in the front of your property then you can have them removed without a permit.

Here is the link and confirmation of what I am advising you on.
