Yes exactly. I'd much rather be in a school with horrible teachers but a non smelling bathroom than a school where the bathroom smells but the education is good. Great point.

Yes, I think we feel it's too iffy. School district not good enough from what I understand.

The teachers all teach the same material.

It's what your child takes from it in the end, no matter where she goes!

I wondered about this or maybe even Malverne, West Hempstead, Valley Stream, Half Hollow Hills, North Babylon, West Babylon, Farmingdale, Harborfields, Elwood and Deer Park, among others.

To a certain extent this is true, but if your kid is not terribly motivated and surrounded by kids who don't care and who have parents who don't care then it's not going to be helpful.

Agree, and also teachers and schools do vary in curriculum and level of preparation. Schools vary in atmosphere. Not to mention programs offered, both academic and extra-curricular.

Extreme example of two very good schools that could not be more different: Northport High School, where I went, is known for its excellent art and music program, but it did not have some of the academic offerings of my wife's specialized NYC high school, nor did I feel there was much of a pressure-cooker atmosphere in terms of studying, taking APs and getting into Ivy League schools. My wife received virtually no art or music education and sports were a joke, but she took courses and participated in academic activities that were not available in Northport at all, but it was an incredibly stressful environment.

I believe the Black graduation rate at Baldwin is in the 90's and for Hispanics it is in the 80's in terms of percentage: 2014 | BALDWIN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL - Graduation Rate | New York State Education Department Data Site

As you can see, the overall grad rate is in the 90's in terms of percentage.

This may be an elementary school to look into within that district and you might find the demographics to be interesting: Brookside Elementary School

A couple more to possibly look into: Plaza Elementary School

One more: Lenox Elementary School
