Don't know about the Town, but the County (Riverhead) has the information.

Records won't show the balance owed, it will show the original amount borrowed. Holds for 2nds too. They are both listed.

The fun begins when you have a home which has been re-financed over.. and over.. and over again. Then you start matching up the mortgage with its release.

However, in the big scheme of things.......it doesn't matter. What DOES matter is today's market and sold comps.

Red fin the property address for the section/block/lot number.
Go to the Suffolk County Clerk online site. You can look up the mortgage and deed info. The free site won't give you the balance, just mortgages/satisfaction as each is recorded.
