Default Westbury Train Station Parking

Hi All,

I am looking into buying a house in Westbury. I need to commute with LIRR to NYC everyday. I want to see if it's hard to find parking in Westbury train station. I think I will take the 830am train. Do I need town permit to park there? Is it crowded?

Default For those who may not be familiar with Westbury

Please bear in mind that 2 out of every 3 places that have a "Westbury, NY 11590" mailing address are not in Westbury!

For those who may not be familiar with Westbury:

Westbury is a village (incorporated in 1932) in the southeast part of the Town of North Hempstead, in the central part of Nassau County along the North Hempstead/Oyster Bay and the North Hempstead/Hempstead town line.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Westbury in the Town of North Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Village of Old Westbury; on the east by the Hamlet of Jericho in the Town Oyster Bay (the North Hempstead/Oyster Bay Town line) and the Hamlet of New Cassel; on the south by the Hamlet of East Meadow and the Hamlet of East Garden City in the Town of Hempstead (the North Hempstead/Hempstead Town line); and on the west by the Hamlet of Carle Place and the Village of Mineola.

Westbury is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where most of the places that have the community name as part of their mailing address are not in the village: quickly eyeballing the map overlay of the "11590" ZIP Code postal zone versus village and hamlet borders, all or parts of the following 8 communities seem to be within the borders of the Westbury postal zone and hence all or some of the places in these communities have a "Westbury, NY 11590" mailing address:

......Hamlet of Jericho, Town of Oyster Bay
......Hamlet of Hicksville, Town of Oyster Bay
......Hamlet of Carle Place, Town of North Hempstead
......Village of Westbury, Town of North Hempstead
......Hamlet of New Cassel, Town of North Hempstead
......Hamlet of Salisbury, Town of Hempstead
......Hamlet of East Garden City, Town of Hempstead
......Hamlet of East Meadow, Town of Hempstead

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

Well I would avoid living around the train station, unless you like living in Mexico.
The NW side of Westbury, toward Carle Place is much nicer, especially around Hicks nursery.
I would not recommend using the Westbury train station because of the area. They often play soccer in the parking lots by the station.

I dont know if you need a permit, but you can call the village if you want. The big lot on the north side of the station. It usually has a few spaces at 8:30am, though they are far away and close to some not so nice boarding houses on Scally place. There's parking on the south side but I think it costs and may be limited.
You're better off parking in Mineola, they built a nice new intermodal center there. No illegals around, safer, and there's more frequent service. It will cost though.

Please don't be over blown by the rhetoric. If you live in the Village of Westbury, you are allowed to park in the lot north of the train station with a permit for $50 annually. The train station is quite nice. I have never had an issue with parking, when I took the train into Penn. I've come home all times of night with no issues. About 3 years ago there was a rash of breakin's around the time L.I. was going through the home invasion epidemic. The Village addressed that with (I believe) Arrow security and beefed up patrols. Additionally, 4 Seasons cab service is always at the base of the station ready for customers.

The village is more wooded and suburban as you head north approaching Jericho Turnpike bordering Old Westbury.

Practically all the trains that stop in Westbury go to or from Penn Station.

Most of the trains go to Penn, some go to Flatbush (Bklyn). Depending on the train,Westbury or Carle Place will be the last stop before going express to Penn.

If you miss the express, then you may have to change at Jamaica (if on a train to Bklyn).
