Default Neighborhoods in Queens

There are good neighborhoods in central, northern and northeast Queens.

Gee, if you live in a nice area of Brooklyn (and ,yes I can certainly believe that), are you sure that you would not be happier staying there ? Parts of Brooklyn are lovely & you have all of the advantages of the city. There are many lovely elementary schools in Brooklyn.

I really miss Long Island. I've been living in Queens since June and can't wait to move back to Long Island. Not just because it's home, but it's more laid back and relaxed. I would much rather drive a car than take mass transit to go anywhere. Don't forget, you have to wait around for a bus/subway, and then it makes all these stops before you get to your destination. Getting around on Long Island is much quicker, in my opinion.

Example: Home depot may be about 3 miles from where I live, but if I have to take a bus, then a subway to get there, it will take nearly 45 minutes to get there. On Long Island, just hop in your car and you can get there in 10 minutes.

So those are a couple differences about each location, hope it helps.

Thanks...I mean, most of LI came from Queens. It's virtually the same thing in many ways. I can't agree with it at all.

LIMA is on a distinguished road
I grew up in Howard Beach, i was the 3rd generation of family there...

I am the only one to have left from my family, my 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and my parents and grandparent(the only one left), many friends are still there...

I did leave to come here to long island that had everything i wanted, motorsports, shooting sports, outdoor stuff and a bigger yard, spaced out houses....

Now most of it is gone, as per motorsports it's all gone, 5 facilities gone overnight almost, i am now trapped with no excitement or fun, and there allowing houses to be built closer together and more of them...

I miss the tight closeness of queens, i found long island to be clicky....and in some ways backwards to how i grew up...But i got involved with business and now im stuck here for quite a while...

The thing that drives me nuts the most is the people, they don't like it but aren't willing to fix it, they want it, but not here, or there just all against anything.

They have no problem putting there wants of nothing and putting your life in harms way for some insanely meaningless salamander or bird....

I didn't notice all these problems when i moved out here do to the motorsports being here and i never seen it, till they got in my face with there hate and bigotry and racial like hate and prejudice against me because of a sport i was involved in and chose to enjoy.....then i seen the true people of long island, selfish and racist in there views...

Now queens is not exactly the same as i remember it, and not being there for as long as i have i can see the changes CLEARLY.... The congestion is 10 fold, but that's not a problem for some, the neighborhood thing has changed though, i could walk anywhere in HB at one time and you would have thought i was the mayor compared to long island, not so anymore, i still know quite a lot of people thruout the neighborhood, but not like it used to be, it is somewhat like here now.
Out here there is no interaction, and try as i might i have still to get to know the people living on the immediate 5 blocks around my home here, where i knew people across 30 blocks before and atleast 3 per block, here in 3 years i know 11..lol and there aren't as many houses on a block as compared to queens, people drive by and i wave and i get strange looks of wtf is wrong with that guy, who is he waving at...it's like there scared to know anyone or anything...

When i moved out here i was blinded by my wants, becareful, go and look at the neighborhoods yourself, pay attention to where you move, go during the day, and during the night and different days.
If you do move and move next to something don't ***** about it, no one forced you to move in next to it or across from it....pay attention, don't be part of the problem out here
Things are very diversified out here, i don't know what people pay attention to when they are out, you can come across anything anywhere on long island.
There is no 1 place that has no crime, but....but get ready to be inconvienced often and sit in unnecessary traffic for some tiny little stupid fender bender, or to be diverted way out of your way for some other non life endangering situation, that the PD's out here still haven't figured out are putting people in harms way, or causing other bigger issues...

(this happens often, but just for an example since i was caught up in this 1)

Last summer a guy went off the road from either a mechanical failure or heart attack in his ferrari, he was way off the road into the woods of the LIE... they closed 3 ent and ext of the lie for no reason and caused hours of delays and traffic all over...not 1 of the PD's officers thought how they could be endagering other citizens with there careless bs they cause by having traffic not able to move freely and get to point a and b, one day the people of long island will have enough of this kind of bs when there trying to get a bleeding child to the hosp and they can't because of nonsense, if it hasn't happened already...

The PD although kinda good is very anal...a simple mistake could end up with you in handcuffs for an hour....they are nothing like the NYPD, if you are in the wrong place and seem to be doing something questionable you will be severly inconvienced, and lawyers don't seem to want to take on jobs where they might have to work...they ignore those types of cases...
Example i was at my business late, i had road tested a vehicle, i made a left turn, made a k turn on the side street came back out and proceeded to my shop 2 blocks away....Left the door open, lights on...my guess the PO seen this and figured i robbed the place...good work except for when he seen my uniform and shirt and phone clipped to me, he should have slowed down....nope his mind...unprofessional i might add was still at 300 mph...i was in cuffs for over 1 hour and 30 minutes, while my shop and the vehicle's were ransacked and the handcuffs cut into my skin, i was extremely pissed and could not believe how this was carrying on for over 1 hour and 45 minutes.
To this very day i am extremely outraged of the way i was treated and the entire situation, a situation that never should have been carried out the way it was and was clearly over the line...
7 officers were on scene at one point, and all helped to go thru stuff and ask me the same questions over and over, at one point i had wondered are they seriously this bad at there job that they honestly can not tell i own this place...this is when i became very nervous, you can't imagine this bs...

This also goes on out here, and i like you reading this at one time said ah there had to be a reason they did that to you when i heard similar stories....i have never questioned anyone's story again after i was in the same situation, instead of a "sorry i thought you were robbing the place" i got handed tickets and told i was lucky to not be arrested...arrested for what... road testing a car and making a turn, he gave me tickets for uninspected, which is what it was here for, illegal u turn, and evasive maneuvers... I have since then stopped donating to scpd.

What did i learn, never fix a customers anything after 8pm here no matter how badly they need it and even if there dying it will result in problems for me, never ask a PO a question, and to fear them, ...that is not supposed to be how it works....

If i could go back to the time i came out here and made this choice, i would have moved somewhere else, i would have paid attention more to everything going on around me... It's 8:44 i gotta get the hell out of here

I lived in Queens Village and work there every day. I would not put it in this sentence. It is not a GOOD neighborhood at all anymore. Wouldn't want my kid going to Van Buren High Schhol at this time.

The other neighborhoods are good. I would also say Bellerose as a possibility, if you don't mind the smell of curry. I don't mean this as an insult, but rather, due to the large indian/pakistani population and the close proximity of houses to each other, you will get some "wafting" of the curry smell into your home. I experienced this when I lived in Queens Village.

It is NOT "virtually the same thing in many ways".... Have you ever set a foot off of LI (other than if you work in NYC)

You can't compare the 5 boros to Long Island on ANY level.....
