We just bought a house in Baldwin in the Silver Lake area. We love it and the schools are great. We are in the oceanside school district. The area is beautiful and our neighbors are really nice.

My parents bought in a new subdivision in Baldwin near the harbor off Northern Blvd. in 1958.
I do not believe that any part of Baldwin is near Northern Blvd (25A). That's the North Shore.

There's a Northern Boulevard in Baldwin Harbor, obviously not the same road as 25A!

Baldwin is far from a hellhole, but it's not exactly the most desirable address in Nassau either. If we're ranking the nearby towns, it would likely look something like this:
1. RVC
2. Oceanside
3. Baldwin
4. Freeport
5. Roosevelt
As with any town, certain areas are nicer than others. But for those who are familiar with Baldwin, would you feel safe walking around the downtown area (Grand Ave. both North and South of Sunrise) at night?

Well, this is where I live (Grand Ave, south of sunrise), and I have no issues walking in this area at night or otherwise. Is it perfect? No, but not much of LI (or any place else) is. I've been here for over 5 years now, and there have been very few issues. It is my hope that Baldwin does all it can to continue to encourage development in the area...

S.I.B, where would you place Hempstead, Uniondale, Baldwin Harbor and South Hempstead on your list?
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Baldwin in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Village of Hempstead and the Hamlet of Uniondale; on the east by the Hamlet of Roosevelt and the Village of Freeport; on the south by the Hamlet of Baldwin Harbor; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Oceanside, the Village of Rockville Centre and the Hamlet of South Hempstead.

To be honest I used to walk from the bowling alley/Pool hall area to Grand Ave North(Sterns Park) all the time with no problems, on a weekend nite! Keep in mind most people are affraid of their own shadow.

That's not a hard question to answer. Yes, I am not concerned about my well being when I walk this street at night. I have done it dozens of times. I can't put it any more plainly than that. Do I feel as safe as I do sitting in my living room; No, but being out in public anywhere at anytime has it's risks.
Could the area be "better"? Well, of course it could. I do not mean to say that it is a picture-perfect environment. I simply do not find it any more risky than walking practically anywhere else in Nassau, and a HECK of a lot more safe than where I grew up (Hempstead heights).
So let me ask you this. What exactly would you be afraid of walking this area at night? Have you had trouble here?
